Smoking banned in Tom and Jerry

Okay, it's a legitimate concern that your kids are watching cartoon characters that smoke. I get that. But to go in and paint over frame by frame so that the characters aren't smoking? Give me a break. Tom and Jerry is a cartoon that's been around for a long time and they'll ruin it. I mean, I understand that the entertainment industry made smoking as huge as it is today but why is this such a big deal. Smoking is not, contrary to popular belief, evil. I mean, even the video says that smoking is banned in the cartoon, but that they are doing nothing about the violence in the cartoon. I think it would be better to just not air episodes with smoking in them, rather than change them.

Does anyone agree with me?

P.S. If the link doesn't work for you the video is on the home page of Yahoo.

I do concur. It's as bad as painting out the guns in E.T. or Han shooting first

(We've become a nation of pu**ies)

I hate smoking, and it is horrible to show it to children. But I completely disagree with covering up history. It's very dangerous and a manipulation of our past culture. It think it is more important to show children these things at the right time and discuss the issues with them in detail. Children aren't stupid, and will only prosper from respect and openness from their parents and other adults.

Cartoons, Movies, Pictures, everything in our history is a reflection of the history of culture. That is what makes it timeless and important.
