1080 24pA footage stutters?

I have a Mac Quad with 4.5gig ram.
I do not see a correct project/capture/timeline setting for 1080 24pA?
I used HD-DVC1080. I captured to a Hitachi SATA 7200rpm.
I was able to get the footage into the timeline, but it needed to be rendered.
I rendered and the footage plays down, but-
there is a blue line above the timeline and the footage is not smooth- dropping frames?

How are you guys working with 1080p footage?

You haven't removed the redundant frames from the clips yet.
