Carlos Mencia Isnt Even Mexican

That vid's great.

I was just listening to the O&A broadcast the other day where Rogan and Mencia had it out. Radio gold.

Personally I dont see the big deal, he's said it like every few weeks for years and people kept assuming he's mexican, maybe finaly he just made it part of his routine. Asumption is always easier for everyone than actually trying to differentiate on our own, I mean from looking at him who would asume that Nick Cage is really Nick Coppola? Meaning Italian. What would you call a black Dominican, Haitian or Puerto Rican when your trying to be politicaly correct; African American? Who the f%$ck cares?

I don't like Carlos Mencia, he isnt funny at all. But he has a point, we arent as free as we think.

Mencia's mother is Mexican. She gave birth to him while she was in Honduras.

i heard mencia say flat out that he was german/honduran on a KCRW radio show... ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO!!! this is not some big secret he's been trying to keep from the public.

nevertheless, we have to suffer a feud between irrelevant comics. great.

I don't care if hes Mexican, Honduran, German, Alien, etc.

The point is, the dude is becoming very successful and is about as funny as yelling the N word in Harlem...I'll be here all week folks.....try the veal....

Couldn't agree more... I didn't laugh at everything Chapelle did... but Mencia sure makes me miss Dave.

I don't get "blue collar comedy" and I sure don't get 90% of what Mencia calls comedy.

Yeah, it really makes you respect the legends. Carlin, Pryor, Murphy, Cosby, etc...They were/are the real deal. They took an extension of their own funny personalities and put it on stage times 1,000. I love those guys. I can't stand Eddie Murphy these days but man, for me, it'd be like the second coming if he decided to do stand-up again.

Mencia...hack. The self-appointed "Kings of Comedy"...give me a break....to me, those guys are just a teeny tiny notch above this Mencia guy.

See? This should be the real topic, that Carlos Mencia (along with 90% of comedians today) are just not funny. Not that they aren't the race we thought they were.

I agree. Comedy Central has failed me.

Now I pray to the BBC that they play Just For Laughs once in a while. Oh, when I go to Canada, I watch every Just for Laughs- that is true comedy.

Like other people have mentioned, Mencia came out on his show and said he was born in Honduras. If D.H. Miller would have actually done some research instead of ranting like a little school girl he would know that Mencia went to school in LA. The reality is that Mencia is just like other great controversial comics like Richard Pryor and George Carlin the people who find them funny do so because they can identify with where their comedy is coming from. Most comics today play it safe with the hope that they will end up on SNL or get their own sitcom. The reality is that truly gifted comics like Mencia piss off a lot of people who don't get their humor, but they also do something every great comic has done since they dawn of stand up...they get everyday people to think about things outside of their comforter zone.

Mr.Blue, i'll agree with you. It's a slightly different take on my original belief, but you've swayed me your way. Carlos mencia isn't funny- to me-, that dosent mean he isn't funny to others and that those that do like his comedy are dumb as Rogan has stated.

You may think Mencia is funny, but its hard to deny that he is a hack. He does the same regurgitated "oohh-so-risky-I-cant-believe-he-said-that" joke thats been done for years. He doesnt represent himself. He represents tired material.

I think Mencia's earlier stand up has some great moments. The TV show is fair at best. His problem is that his routine is getting stale fast. He needs to reinvent himself. But I doubt he will.

My vote for most overlooked comic genius of our time is . . .

Phil Hendrie

All those characters, scenarios and improv dialogue - I laugh just thinking about it!

DC-

I used to laugh like crazy when I would listen to his show when I was living out there. In fact, I was addicted to 640AM KFI...he was great. He would get people so riled up and he'd get so many callers that had NO idea he was pulling their legs...

Ned Holness is a crappy name.

Now everyone, I'm going to ask something, please clear this up.

Is Dane Cook funny?
