Adobe Premiere 2.0, yay or nay?

Let me give some background first of all. The first editing system I ever used was Adobe Premiere... 6.0 I believe. Anyway, I always loved it, that is, until I found Final Cut Pro. For the last 6 months, I've been obsessing over FCP and wanting to buy a brand new Mac just so I could use it.

I can get FCP for cheap, no problem, I have a work around (don't worry, no piracy). It's the $2000+ Mac that will be more of an issue. Would it be worth it to just go ahead and get the new Premiere? With student discoun ts I can get the video bundle (http://www.studica.com/products/product_detail.cfm?productid=49284) for about $650.

I'm basically just wondering if I should abandon my platform jumping plans for now and just stick with Premiere. It would definetly be cheaper, but I need to know if the new version/package will be worth it. Any opinions would help. Hopefully my question is clear, but if not, just let me know and I can try to clarify more. Thanks for any help!

While I personally like Premiere Pro and the integration with the other Adobe products, this is really a matter of taste. Why not download the try out version of PPro and give it a real test. Since you already have an investment in learning Premiere (and the hardware to run it on) you should give it a serious consideration before abandoning it for a completely different solution.

Premiere Pro is the closest thing to FCP for PC. The user interface is very similar and both are capable of the same things. Really depends on what other software you intend to use as well.

Personally, while I too would love to have a new Mac Pro you REALLY don't get that much for your 2500 USD.

Yeah I edit on all platforms: Avid Xpress, FCP and Premiere and have to say while I like Final Cut, I just love the intergration with After Effects and all the other wonderful Apps. I would definatly learn them all, but stick with what you feel comfortable with and what fits your budget and work flow.

put it this way: are you going to use After Effects? If so, Premiere 2.0 and the production Suite is definitely the way to go. Why? because the two programs now work seamlessly together so that you can import unrendered AE projects straight into the PP timeline and PP timelines straight into AE. It saves HUGE ammounts of time in rendering and is an imporvement that makes the overall editing process infinately much easier.

If you already know Premiere 6 you'll find the new one a breeze to work with.

I agree with Morten. There is no program for editing that works better with After Effects than Premiere. They made it to go well with AE. The newest After Effects and Premiere 2.0 have the same user interface so you can navigate with tools more easier. I'm working with Premiere for some time now and there isn't a single thing in it that I'm missing. I strongly recommend it.
