Rates for Hi-8 VHS TO DVD

I'd say it depends on the number of tapes, and the number of DVD. For a single tape to DVD transfer with no menu, I'd say charge $20 for the first DVD, and $5 for each copy after that. Keep in mind this is something the average person can do with a $90 DVD Recorder from Walmart...

If they have a box of 20 some tapes, and they want you to take scenes from each tape and create a single DVD, then I'd say $50 - $60 for the first DVD, and $10 for each copy after that. Keep in mind, though, that a situation like that would barely be worth the time.

This is a really good question and one that I too would like to see answered. However, rather than pricing it by the DVD (which is the final product), would it not be better to charge by the hour? One way would be to set a price by the hour of footage to be transferred. When you say 1 DVD, that could be two whole Hi-8 tapes. And like Tony said, if you're going to edit, that adds more time. I think I might charge a certain amount per hour of tape to be transferred and edited. I've never actually been hired to do this, but myh set rate has always been $30 per hour of tape to be transferred. That fits with Tony's stated $50-60 per DVD, right? Any other chimers-in?
