Shooting a car scene at night with greenscreen windows

Any tips. Obviously I'm shooting Poor Mans Process (not moving the car). The wil be tight I know how to pull a key. WHat I am worried about it is being able to see the windshield glass even though I'm shooting greenscreen behind it.

Do I need to shoot a seperate element of glass? I can key the glass out completely, but then it looks funny.

Only idea I had, is to shoot the moving background plate (to be seen through the windows) through and actual window.

Any way to do it in the comp though.

I'm using Discreet Combustion and shooting 720p with the HV200. I'm transefering the MXF files to cineon files to edit on Vegas.

Thanks

Whose car is it?

Most auto glass companies can pull and replace a windshield really cheap... like $50. Make a few calls. Since you only want labor, you may be able to trade in exchance for thank you in the credits?

Maybe you should just have the windshield pulled and put it back when your done??

Depends on the shots you want, outside the car master and two-fers, then push in and through the glass would be a cool effect. Or just shoot through the windshield with a polorizer filter.

If you look at the car scenes in Sin City, Rob Rod used both. He did some wide/master stuff with a real car, glass and all. Then for the interior dialog scenes he took it out.

The pro version of After Effects has a keyer that takes out the green and leaves the reflections in the glass (something you want). Not sure how good other keyers are at it.

Check out the film that Bill Paxton directed... got it at Walmart for like $5.50 but in the extras section it talks about how they shot the night car stuff...

The film is called Frailty

Yeah..I've seen the Fraility DVD and it's has a great featurette about shooting poorman process that I have studied and used before.

I wanna try something different this time......I have a schizo character driving and I want to change what's outside the window depending on who's which personality is talking. I do need a glass element.

Riff-raff, Do you have any idea what thename of the AE effect?

A long way from the poor man process Lucio Fulci used in Zombie2, which was to cut out the section of the windshield within the dust free areas left behind by the windshield wipers... Ahhh if only things were that simple...

Break away man. Shoot with a real moving car. Light it and shoot it. You can either make a DIY hood mount or get a cheap 'stickypod'.

but if not. good luck with the green windows.
