Like I'm a 5-year-old, what do I need to know about polarizers?

Focus puller is absurd? Dude... the 1st AC job (which is frequently shortened to "focus puller") is VITAL. Crucial. A bad 1st AC = bad footage, any way you slice it.

An absurd credit is what the brits call a 2nd AC. They call that job the "clapper/loader." :)

Yes I do know this and have actually been a focus puller on a film once with this cool cat as DP:

I speak from experience

It was said in jest as to the simplicity of it and the fact that there's an entire job based around it.

(Jeez people, lighten up)

Got the polarizer. Screwed it on. How exactly do I get it off?
Oh you can't ... didn't we mention that? Once it's on it's on.

Ok just joking hee hee :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

You can get it off but you have to hire a Polarizer Operator.

Okay kidding again ... but seriously thoug folks ...

gotta grab her by the ring closest to the camera, not the outside ring which will turn forever and ever

Actually got it off right after posting the message. I think I need to grow my nails out so I can grasp this thing better.

Anyway, I ended up getting the one Blaine recommendedActually got it off right after posting the message. I think I need to grow my nails out so I can grasp this thing better.

Anyway, I ended up getting the one Blaine recommended (Schneider 82 Top Polarizer) and was wondering if there are any recommendations to getting the best footage possible from this combo with the HVX. I love all the detail it's giving me in skies (it's like getting and extra stop of lattitude) but the "muddled" look of the image is a bit disconcerting. I know that a polarize is going to reduce the contrast and perhaps cut the color a bit but my shadow areas have a kind of a pale, splochy feel to them. Any way I can reduce this or is just the price I pay for getting to see some clouds?

polarizer reccomendations?

polarizer reccomendations?

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread...I'm about to get an HVX and I have a small amount of money to spend on accessories. I've decided a pair of DVX 5600mah batteries and a polarizer would fulfill the double requirement of fitting my budget and being necessary (I can't afford a tripod but I can borrow one until I can buy my own). I'm breaking the bank so bad I can't even afford P2 cards, gonna have to shoot some SD jobs to finish outfitting the camera. To get those jobs I need to have a good reel, so a polarizer is a must. Anybody have any good, cheap circular polarizers to reccomend? I found a couple on B&H...this one and this one for a little bit more. Is the extra money worth it, and would I be getting the correct filter?

Im using the Hoya which is a little more exe, but worth its weight. There are better polarisers like B+W for little more than those, which I think would be much better (basing on what Ive read/heard from other users).

If you are going to get batteries seriously jump on the DVXUser batteries as they are cheaper and just as effective.

I'll probably spring for the Hoya for now and upgrade at some point. I noticed B&H has a B+W for the same price as the Hoya but further examinations reveals it to be linear, and I need to be able to control it. The B+W circular polarizer is out of my budget. I'm totally with you on the batteries.
