Amazing Sci-Fi Short Film (Halo Director)

Halo

Halo

If his previous work is any hint, it's a safe bet that Halo's probably going to end up having an embedded news crew docu-action-drama feel. I smell a new genre forming. Ha! I'm not necessarily opposed to some longer doc or drama style cuts in an action flicks as long as they don't make up the whole movie. And as long as there are no first person shooter camera shots.:banned:
There were some parts I like and some parts I didn't. I understand low budget production limits, but one of my pet pieves is aliens having human physiology. Also I'm starting to get sick of overly shaky "reality" style filming, and the robo suites looked way to low tech and angular for a civilization that could cross galaxies. Looks like something that belongs in The Abyss or Leviathon, not from an advanced alien species. Although it does support the "their society is crumbling" angle a little bit.
But, in the end I liked it overall. I thought it was an interesting take on the genre. In the end I'm a sucker for sci fi.
Any word on how well Avatar is coming along?

I don't know too much about the Halo movie, but...

I really hope that it can stand on it's own, without the games. That it isn't some 'nerd' oriented film. I don't think it will be (and I'll see it either way) but it needs to be done on a huge scale.

Halo, to keep with the genre of the games should be entirely CGI because it would totally ruin the feel and it would turn into PowerRangers if they shot it on film. They should do MoCap or something cool like that.

I think this guy can handle it. He's got the technical know-how so the special effects won't be lame. And he knows how to make cool effects on a low budget. And he can obviously direct because we totally buy into the performances of the actors for that create documentary feel. And don't forget he's a commercial director, so he has plenty experience.

But he obviously won't shoot the halo film like "Joburg". Halo will be a conventional film. And I think he'll pull it off.

Why, so it can be a flop like every other "Uncanny Valley" CGI film (ahem, Final Fantasy). The entire game series is a CGI film already. If you're bringing it to the big screen it should be live action. Otherwise you might as well stay at home and
just play it on a big plasma screen. :)

that was pretty boring. If a bunch of giant ships landed over our heads like that I think we'de blow that crap out of them before they even hit earth. There wouldn't be any time for a meaningful parable to poverty in third world countries!

I'm with Mojo.

Live action all the way. This short was fantastic thanks for the link Pk. I have renewed hope for the Halo film now.

Obviously Zoostory didn't learn anything from Independence Day. Also the Western World can't just go launching an all out assault over another nation's sovereign airspace.

And if you left it to the U.N. the aliens would be 2 generations on Earth before a UN comittee could issue a resolution on their stance on the aliens.

so this makes alot of sense to me.

I learned that you can upload a virus from a macintosh computer into the aliens mainframe and destroy them all. Duh. I also saw this movie once before, it was called alien nation. Only it wasn't (as) boring.

I was waiting for that robot to transform. Was that CG? I thought it was a man in a suit.

Get it right. In Alien Nation, they had funny heads. These aliens have funny FACES. Absolutely NO similarity at all.

Whatever... I'm with the guys that think that short was fantastic.

Don't have an opinion on Halo either way. Not interested.
