CinePorter™ FAQ

That's definitely a much sleeker design!

Thanks for keeping us updated on your progress. I think we all know that there are many road bumps in every product development process, so delays are only to be expected. I hope that you can resolve your problems soon, though. If the delays are with the hard disk drives, I for one would be willing to accept smaller drives instead of waiting.

Great to hear from you David! :)

The new design looks much better and am glad to hear it will also have improved performance!

we do have a new chassis design, as promised, which is thinner, lighter, stronger, and looks like it's going to be quieter and more shock resistant. Even better, the time it takes to manufacture is going to be shorter.
"Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic P2 unit. The cineporter will be that unit. Better than it was before. Better, stronger, faster." ....... The Bionic CP-2

I am just itching for one..... which leaves one question: Need a beta tester? :)

Hope this has not been answered but how long would it take to transfer/offload a full 160 gb Cineporter to computer via firewire.

Hi guys, I know I'm missing questions, so ask again, if I do.

The HDDs are a problem, amongst other things, but that should be solved shortly. There are some advantages to the new model that we want to utilize.

Any ideas on the prices in the UK? Will you have a distributer, or must we order direct?

Dave

We are in the process of reviewing possible dealers around the World including the UK. They will have exclusivity. They will set the appropriate price for the territory.

We have already chosen beta testers using very stringent criteria. Send me an email and I'll discuss it with you.

Using FW400 we have been averaging 2.5 hours with a fairly average computer. This will change on your computer configuration and speed. Faster HDD and FW800 helps a lot, usually 1.5 hours.

looks great! Is it still being connected via the p2 slot on the HVX?

Of course. You can see the new connector on the CinePorter™ body and the other end is molded into the Interface card. There will be extensions available as stated previously.

.....what IS the other connector, some sort of coax-ish thing? And has anything ELSE changed with the new design?

Man, this is a big deflater, So the release went from next month or so- to maybe next year? I sure hope panasonic is working on some high GB low-cost cards so someone will help us do cheap, extened shooting- sheesh

I realize this cineporter is addressing a major issue for the HVX and am glad spec is doing something about it (much more than Panasonic), but this "product" is gonna lose its flavor if it comes out next year, imo

David,

I would first like to say thank you for your work on this much needed and anticipated recorder. I will be buying one no matter when it comes out. But, having said that, I've got a documentary that I'm starting in late October; I could possibly push it into November.

For myself and many others waiting like children around the Christmas tree, could we get an updated 'possible' release date? If it is not out by October, I'll have to find another option, and this may actually include a different camera than the HVX. I have already purchased a HVX from your company and love it, minus the limited options for documentary shooters.

Thanks,
Brian Wiley

David, for goodnes sake, don't apologize for "DOING IT RIGHT".
Personally I'd rather work with a company like yours then some "quick cash" minded company. (We have all seen them).
For most of us, we can rent another product to get us by while you perfect yours.

I've done a lot of homework on the large recording options and nothing other then 64gig P2 cards comes close to the CinePorter.
I'm patiently waiting. Get it out ASAP, but more importantly...get it out right.
Thanks!

agree, this product is really needed -- portable, native recording, good size HD. You have 100 creatives on your list with 1 or more order requests. In order to be fair for those that can't wait for a solid date and for those that are looking to buy one recording unit in the close 2000 price point -- a release date will be more than welcomed.

Is their a bigger problem than a supply issue? some have brought up speculation about a licensing issue with the big dog panny. IF their is this issue than the release date could be mid 2007 or even longer. For fairness for those that need this type of porduct could their be more precise info. At leaset people coiuld make a decision on whether to seek other avenues.

I know this is a private company matter but this is a public unit that hundreds are awaiting with sweaty palms. :)

Key word: "speculation". Let's not take factless speculation and create an issue. I know nycfilmmaker is just being curious, but David has told us what the delays were about: supply issues. Bringing this up again and giving a baseless mid 2007 or longer estimate is just starting and fanning a fire.

I really doubt Spec-Comm went through all the design, engineering, and manufacturing stages of product production without looking into this speculated issue. He (David) has told us that the issues are supply related, and I would trust Spec-Comm and David to tell us of any other issues. Therefore, due to the fact David has never even mentioned this speculated issue, leads me to believe that it is not a problem.

Let's worry when we have something to worry about. :)

It is a high speed multi-pin connector with a collar-release similar in style to what you would find on a lens control cable on a professional camera.

There are other minor changes, but nothing feature-wise.

You are welcome Brian,

We are working very hard to release it before the end of the year, hopefully in November, if everything falls into place. I am still waiting on information necessary to establish a release date. I know how much this means to everyone, so be assured that I will let you know as soon as we know.

Thanks for the encouraging words Ted,

I know some will have to move to another solution and there are a couple now, but we feel as you do, it has to be right!
