Is it possible to get 'Saving Private Ryan' looking clips using FCP?

Hey guys,

Very new to FCP and whats worse I just saw SPR and Band of Brothers again recently and absolutely love the texture/color of the clips. Wondering if it is possible to get anything similar in Final Cut?

Thanks in advance ! :D

Texture -- well, you need to shoot with a fast shutter speed... 1/250 and above (below). The coloring can be done in FCP easy enough.

Personally I'd check out the Final Cut "Bleach Bypass" filter from Nattress (free demo). It'll save you hours of time (plus you'll get a good other half dozen other filters that you probably don't realize you need!).

Second the suggestion for the Nattress filters. They have the exact look you will want already pre-programmed.

Bleach bypass or not, you won't get the stutter-effect without shutter speed. We all agree on that, right??

As for the bleach bypass, lay your color footage over a black and white video track of the same footage then play with the color footage's transparency until you get it how you want it.

That's exactly the same as playing with the saturation. I don't think it'll give the exact look he's looking for... but it is something to play around with.

I agree with the others on the nattress filters.

I think the shutter was at 1/500?

Didn't they stagger the shutter speed throughout the sequences? Didn't it change alot? I thought the varying shutter speed was what caused it.

I'm definitely wrong now that I think about it.

SPR was shot with a shutter angle that translates to 1/250 a sec in video terms.

Agreed. Only the battle action scenes though. Also, you need lots of action to make the effect really apparent.
