John Roberts Powers Agency

There's a JRP here in Utah as well. They've never had the best rep around here. The best rule of thumb is that if they want money, then you should pass. An agency should make their money from their bookings, not their talent.

Any place that wants money is full of shi*.

Run far away. John Robert Powers is a scam.

Mojo and John are absolutely correct, JRP is a well known scam. If you are anything less than a "name" (with a really high IMDB Star Meter and have generated your previous agency / managers lots of income), you will never be scouted. The way to get an agent is via a submission or perhaps a recommendation of one of their current clients. The easier it is to get with an agency, the less value they will have for you.

A legitimate agency would never ask for any money and shouldn't even recommend head shot photographers, printers, acting classes or coaches. Their only source of income should be the commission that they make on income earned. Look for an agency that is either SAG franchised (essential if the talent is a guild member) or is a member of the TMA (Talent Manager's Association). SAG and AFTRA projects have a limit of 10% for the agent's commission (though managers can charge up to 15%). Print is typically 20%.

There should never be any fees or other charges.

Yeah thats what I thought. Its like that John Cassablanca modelling agency that made you pay for a ton of things and get mad if you didnt have the money.
