Weapons of Glass Destruction

First of all, heat and light are enemies of good beer. You want to keep it in a cool, dark place. I'd use half the amount of water, and you're using way too much sugar.

<Shakes head at that recipe.> That's like someone saying "I don't really like movies" when all they've seen is something captured off a cell phone.

The first thing you start with for 5 gallons of beer is 12-15 lbs of malted barley, which is mashed at 156 degF for approx. 45 minutes to an hour or until it no longer turns iodine black. You then sparge (rinse) the grain with 166 degF water until you collect 6.5-7 gallons of wort. That's then boiled for approximately an hour with hops. A final addition of hops after the heat is turned off. Cool (with wort chiller) and pitch with yeast. Rack in two days, bottle in another 5 and there you go...beer.

Of course, that's the CliffsNotes recipe.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

10 gallons lukewarm water
1 can (3lbs) hop-flavored malt syrup
10 lbs sugar
1 package yeast

Pour it all together. Cover, and place in a warm place. Skim foam off frequently. Let sit (and skim frequently) for 4-6 days, until 10 bubbles appear per minute are seen in the center. Siphon into bottle. Cap. Allow to age for two weeks.

What I used.

What's that the recipe for, Noob Beer?:nads:

I like some sun brewed beer. Corona for example, it can be a bit skunky but add lime and (Sounds of angels).

I agree with Terry; I ain't listening to nuthin about beer from a 14 year old.

Havent we all agreed that I have no say in beer, the stuff me and my cousins made was crap, and I have no taste in beer.

Hey, I recognize some of those beers:

Regular mass brewed Labatt's Blue (Which was named for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers)
Microbrewed - Big Rock (Based in Calgary), Moosehead - East Cost based in St. Johns New Brunswick

Big rock has several great ales. Although not shown in your pics, the McNally's is one of their stronger beers that can have as much as 9% alcohol.

Mmmmmm.... McNally's

We got us a place locally that has some of the best beer I've ever tasted. The place is called "Trailhead" in Saint Charles Old Town... and they brew a lot of beer there... in the fall they have Pumpkin Beer... right now they have a beer that's unfiltered and almost devoid of hops... the last beer they had was LOADED with hops! On any given day you can go in there and sample at least 6 different beers that they brew.

They have one called Missouri Brown and it's ALMOST better then Guinness! I'd put it neck and neck! You drink it the same way... and the finish is a perfect combination of "chocolate and coffee". It's really hard to stop drinking that stuff.

If any of you guys ever find yourself in this area you gotta' try Trailhead.

My earliest memory of home-brew was at a house party and I drank at least a half dozen of this girl's (dad's) home-brew... he was trying his best to make a stout and all I can say is that beer nearly blew out my lower intestine the next day. I can't even remember if I thought it was good because of all the trauma.
