Hi all,

I'm a wedding videographer & just starting out. I would like some advice/suggestions from more experienced videographers how they market their services.

I'm aware that the most common avenues for marketing your videography services are bridal shops, 5-star hotels, event management companies, the Yellow Pages, by word of mouth, through attending bridal fairs, website, etc.

Any other more unconventional ways that you guys have done it & got satisfactory results? Much thanks in advance for your comments.

I think you covered the most important ones. In my opinion attending bridal fairs & conventions is the no 1 marketing tool...
-Get a working relation with photographers, they refer you a lot...
-'Keep your clients happy' It is unbeliavable how much word of mouth is effective... In fact, you shouldnt be spending money on marketing after 2 years in the business...

I see. Hmm. Interesting. Yeah, in the meantime, I'm linking up with as many reputable photographers as I can during the course of wedding shoots. We talk & exchange contact numbers.

However, bridal houses are a bit sticky b.c. they bind the videographer to a set of quite unreasonable contracts & don't pay freelancers much. Worse, they delay payment until 2-3 months after the wedding shoot.

I still believe strongly in the power of positive word of mouth & also the reverse (bad PWOM). So every shoot I have to treat it with utmost care.

Thanks volcano for your valuable insights.

That is what makes wedding videography business a very challenging one... I dont know you, but it consumed me fast...

If you are just starting out, get on craigslist and post your services. Get off of it as soon as you don't need it. Get your clients to do your marketing. Thats one of the best and most difficult parts about this line of work. It takes A TON, A TON of work and handholding on your part to develop a client who will do that for you, but it does happen and some people can totally make your business.

The 5 star hotels and wedding planners are not your best avenue, until you are really, really ready for it. But some wedding planners want to have different levels of videographers, who knows. Bridal shops? probably a waste of time. Brides are in their for their dresses and can't really focus on anything else.

Good luck. Get good at what you do. Learn to treat it as Business. The second one, I've always had a tough time dealing with, but eventually you figure it out.
