Settings for the Sony MFMHT75W 17" LCD?

Finally got the Sony, is there anything in the monitors menu setting that should be changed for using it with the HVX?
And if I wanted to mask of a 1,85:1 frame on the Lcd what would the dimensions be (in centimeters, please)...?

I'm interested in seeing any advice as well. I just hooked mine up to the HVX via the component cable and switched inputs until I got the picture. Looks great BTW.

I just ordered from B&H for $439.00. Seems like a great deal!

Sure would be cool if someone could post the exact menu setup to get the LCD as close to the Panasonic 17" pro lcd as possible.

Evinsky? Anyone.

Just be careful guys. I think I was one off the 1st people to use a regular home HD television as a field monitor. While in theory it sounds great, two extremly important things to remember is that they will generally NOT be good for COLOR or EXPOSURE.

Color is usually not good because the TV's are designed to artifically 'enhance' the images for Joe 6-Pack and his wife. It becomes hard, if not impossible, to get the true colors that your HD camera is recording.

Exposure is usually not good because HDTV's sold in america usually compensate for 7.5 IRE blackness @ the inputs. Whereas Pro monitors go all the way down to 0 IRE (which is the same as your camera is recording). Therefore, if you use a HDTV for a field monitor, then the image you are seeing in the field on the TV will be much darker then the camera is recording. If you compensate for that in-camera, you could be screwing yourself.

HDTV's are basically good for directors to compose their shots and focusing. But that's about it. I hope this helps,

Brightness should be determined at your viewing location using your color bars on the camera. (Only one of the little black bars should be visable, and only just barely)
Chorma 50
Tint 50
NR is up to your prefrence, I usually leave it on.
Color temp is tricky, I like the 5600K or custom, but that takes time to adjust.

Shannon is right, but if you calibrate the brightness correctly and use your zebras and marker on the camera, this monitor can tell you quite alot about your final image that the onboard LCD cannot.

Thanks a lot guys!
Anyone has the dimensions for a 1,85:1 screen-mask...?
And is there any monitor mount for this Sony, that could be modified for c-stand mounting?
What were the "24" guys using?

www.marketek.com has a mounting plate and stand for $89.00 that will mount this monitor. I ordered one and it is arriving tomorrow, will let you know if it's cool. Not sure exactly how the 24 guys, Taylor and Rodney have their monitor mounted because it's upside down to compensate for their M2. Last time I was on the 24 set, they were not shooting video, just Panavisions.

Best,

Dan

Hi All:

Finally received the Markertek stand for the Sony LCD monitor. Problem is, nobody can tell me which size and length of screws to use to affix the Sony monitor to the monitor stand. Does anyone know what the standard VESA mounting plate size screw are? I tried 6/32 and 8/32 screws from Home Depot and neither fit. I suspect that the correct screw size is metric but I don't know where to get them and what size and length we need.

Thanks,

Dan

hey puredrifting,

considering getting the same vesa mount from markertek... wondering if you ever found the right plate screw sizes? also, how's the overall quality of the combo stand and mount... good option for the sony you think? any info would be helpful. thanks.

Hey nicolino:

Tried the standard and metric machine screws from Home Depot and the local hardware stores. I think that the holes are metric but everything I found was way too long. I am going to purchase a VESA wall mount plate and will steal the screws from it as the hardware outlets don't usually carry anything shorter than half an inch in length.

The quality of the stand and mount are decent but it is a bit bulky to bring on field shoots IMHO. For the studio or larger shoots where you have the room and crew, it seems like it will work well. Until I hunt down those screws, I won't know for sure.

Best,

Dan

I went to b&h yesterday trying to get the Sony MFM-HT75W and they were sold out. The price they had listed was $439.00. Can anyone recommend a place that I can get the Sony for a price in that range?

We just picked up half a dozen of them from Overstock.com for $519.00. They are the only ones. If we didn't clean them out, you can still get one. If they are out, good luck, it's a discontinued model.

Best,

Dan

Regarding the mounting screws:

I mounted mine to the markertek stand with 4mm wide, 6mm long screws from Home depot. They're smaller than you would expect but are the perfect size (looked in up in the VESA standards page).

Also, I used an M2 adapter and mounting upside down worked great!

Cheers,
Gil
