You Don't Need Money to do a Music Video

Certainly no worse than synchronized swimming* :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

* well, except that synchronized swimming is GIRLS!

Hmmmm

Hmmmm

I wouldn't whole-heartedly agree with you on that. Considering this band is pretty popular and is on a major label. I almost garantee a big enough budget was put into this. Look at some of Gondry and Jonze's work, sometimes video are made to seem cheap, inexpensive and amatuer, but at the same time very clever. I think this could be the case for this video. Plus im sure they spent a fortune on promotion and PR on this video as well...

Just some thoughts...But i know the music business pretty well...a major would never let a band do a no-budget video, too risky.

I assume you are responding to the title of this thread since there is nothing but qualitative (not quantitative) opinion in my post and therefore nothing for you to disagree with...

...I don't think, however, that the point being made here was that this video actually was done with no money.

How much money the video cost is immaterial to the fact that the the material cost of the video for FX, and gear, and costumes, and locations etc. ... is well ... I could shoot this for free if i knew someone that had a gym. This video could have been made with very little cheddar.

The point of the thread is that ingenuity and imagination trumps throwing money at something.

That's not saying that some coreographer wasn't flown in from some other country and paid what some people make in a year to do this and the same goes for art direction and directing, nor does it assert that a team of publicists didn't agonize for months over whether this low tech aesthetic would be the best vehicle for the band ... no one is saying all that didn't happen, and it's irrelevant as to whether it did or not ...

because point is, someone with very little financial means could go out and make this video (for nothing or damn near close to it) if they were brilliant enough to think of it first.

Well firstly it didnt look like the band's official music video to me...more like a fan's take on it.

Now not to give a crack at the no budget status - i really respect that...but does anyone here think that while the basic idea is good it might have looked a tad better without a bald guy with a pink shirt? Maybe if they were all replaced with strippers or somefink...like imgenentertainment said...just 1 teeny weeny step further!
