Haute Tension...

Anybody seen this incredible horror flick yet? I saw it at the Atlanta Film Festival over the summer and was blown away. It's a French film and has been out since 2001 (At least in France ;)). It's just now being released in the states (June, 3rd, 2005) with an NC-17 under the title High Tension!!! Well the trailers now up so everyone should take a look.

And if you won't be old enough to see it when it comes out or just can wait till June, go to a place called www.ethaicd.com and you can get the complete uncut version for $7.50 (Free shipping!).

Re: Haute Tension...

That wasn't scary. I've experienced worse in my neighboorhood. That's disney land compared to where I'm from. WESSSSIDE! ;D

Re: Haute Tension...

I really like this trailer. Saw it when I saw Saw(that was a bad play on words). The song is what does it for me... drew me in. This is like an extended teaser, but it works for me. You say it's the **** I'm game to check it out. Is the unrated version what i want to see? ie- will it be tamed down for the theatre, and the unrated version is totally sick & twisted(what I'd like to see)?

This one looks like a breath of fresh air in the horror genre for 2005 releases. When I saw Blade 3 there were 3 different trailers shown, all with the exact same storyline - ghosts haunting a dwelling. A good ole psycho on a killing spree could be the right fix.

Re: Haute Tension...

Are you talking about the movie or the trailer?

The trailer. Why? I didn't say it was going to suck. It may not be scary dosen't mean its going to suck. I'm definetly going to watch it. :)

Re: Haute Tension...

The trailer was creepy enough for me, and that was the scariest application of music I've heard in a loooong time. Maybe ever.

And Spider- I live in a pretty rough neighborhood myself. Let's see, we had the Mayport Murderer a couple streets from me where they found five (count 'em: FIVE) dead family members, one goat and a snake in his home. Across the street is a registered sex offender. The usual crack dealers who come and go (I actually found a bag of coke wrapped in a dryer sheet of all things, along with a rusty razor blade and a keepsake letter from prison in my closet after I had been living here for five years). And we either have year round fireworks, or routine gunshots that have gotten so old hat that I just get out of my bed downstairs and move upstairs with my daughter, just in case the shots were aimed at a human form. Less likely to get hit, unless the shots go really wild.

Its a wonderful life. ;D

Re: Haute Tension...

Looks good. What up with LGF doing these sorts of films lately?

Re: Haute Tension...

Terri- wow, I think we live in the same hood. A goat you said? Whad da hell! Now thats creepy, here we have dead chickens and cocks. I think its time for you to move, same here. I live in Modesto, Scott Peterson, oo now thats scary. That fool.

Re: Haute Tension...

heh! Yeah, everytime you post something about your 'hood, I think we're neighbors. ;D I know I am crazy, but this little place has grown on me, and I dont really want to move. I keep thinking I can outlast the bad elements. So far so good. :)

Re: Haute Tension...

This movie is very intense. The title is really good, because the tension in the movie is unbearable. Like I said it was made in 2001 one and was release in Korea, Thai, etc. It took a while for it to be picked up in the US because it's so graphic. There are only five murders in the movie, but they're really graphic and drawn out. Lions Gate has decided to release it with an NC-17!!! I have it on DVD (www.thaicd.com) which is cool because it was only $7.50.

As for the music in the trailer its Superstar by Sonic Youth.

Re: Haute Tension...

Looks like she bleaches her front teeth on that last one. (trying not to think about people getting hacked to pieces, trying not to this about people getting hacked to pieces...)

I just saw this movie and I swear it was shot digitally. It has that motion to it, and the colors sort of look digital sometimes.

Anyone know what they used? Viper, CineAlta, what?

On the other hand, I could very well be imagining things.

I never had any interest in seeing this film when it was in the theaters, because I naturally assumed that it would be another shallow slasher-torture-survival-flick made for the sole purpose of drawing in young adults my age who are impressed by gore and 'cool' death scenarios.

I read some comments on this forum that suggested this movie to be worth renting, so I picked it up from Hollywood today and gave it a watch.

SPOILERS AHEAD (not that it really makes any difference)

This movie reminded me of the joke in 'Adaptation' with Donald writing the screenplay of a killer, a cop, and a victim who were all the same person, and Charlie pointing out how the movie would be impossible to make due to the unavoidable plot-canyons a structure like that would introduce.

Did anyone else feel insulted by how half-assed the "plot twist" was handled?

I feel like the plot-holes, loose ends, unrealistic actions, and unexplained motives aren't even worth questioning because they can simply be attributed to bad filmmaking.

Is there a story behind this ridiculous script? Was there a last-minute rewrite that resulted in a make-shift ending? Or was the writer/director just wingin' it?

Word of mouth has failed me once again.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I was insulted, but the "plot twist" did ruin the movie for me.

Up until the twist I was totally into the film and thought it was exceptional... then the twist and it's ruined.

Too many loose ends and unanswered questions. My biggest gripe was the beginning when (spoiler) we see the "bad guy" sitting in his truck making the head give him head. The girls are driving in their car or have arrived at the house which is miles away. This doesn't make sense if we are to follow and believe the events that take place later in the film.

Before stupidity ensued, I loved the tension that was created, and loved the cinematography.

The guys that made the film are excellent filmmakers, and proved themselves with The Hills Have Eyes remake.

I think she created the part about the head giving her head in her head. lol. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but isn't the crazy girl with the fractured mind the one telling the story?
