Jarhead - Recycling has never been so demoralising.

I like tai guk gi the brother hood of war.... i might have spelt it wrong, i dont watch many asian films. but for korean war movies and war movies in general, I really liked it. like SPR.

Did you, Volcano?
Had my fair share too...
I don't think we've ever met, nor do I remember having ever spoken to you, so I find it laughable that you understand what I really like or don't like about this movie. Because it doesn't speak to me the way it does to you, I don't understand characters in movies?
I see your point here... You are right it is laughable if i was referring to you personally, or to somebody else... I hear that quite often(Charecters are not likeable), so it was a comment against 'generalasition'. You cant deny the fact it is one of the most used criterias when it comes to judge a movie... Not many individuals left living with their NORMS...
I realize that you have probably been around more than most of us on this board and that your scope of human understanding is far greater than ours, so in the future I guess I'd better defer to your opinions since they obviously carry more weight than anyone else's.
This part of your claim is baseless...
perhaps you could explain why you don't believe the movies I listed are good.
I shouldnt compare our subjective understanding of 'good or bad'. I rarely join the "best movie of..." conversations. All i can say is that movies that have distorted 'reflection of reality' (for whatever the purpose is) should be taken for what they are: 'entertaining'...And I dont watch to be entertained...

I will just quote you here, then let it go:

What is this "I didnt care about charecters" BS?
I'll tell you why you dont like those grunts in the movie: Cause they were real... Case was real, vanity was real, charred bodies lying on desert was real... Reality is hard to swallow for sure...
That sounds like you were speaking to me, personally.

So, "Few of them are good movies in your list btw..." is a legitimate (unsupported) assessment? How can I ever be expected to know what makes a "good movie" if you don't explain it to me? Am I doomed forever to continue my miserable existance mistakenly believing that movies such as Apocalypse Now, Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan and We Were Soldiers were good? :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Blaine,Mr Hollywood...
If you felt it was speaking to you, then it was...
As for your(and mine too) miserable existence, good news is that it is not gonna last forever...
Peace...
PS:EDITED, sounded harsh...

I think i am older... Nice weather outside, gottta work damn...
Nice meeting you Blaine...

I don't think the characters were not likable, i just think they were presented in a superficial way. i agree with a lot what Spidey says about the film, but in the end i didn't walk away saying, "dam what a good film." On the contrary, i was left kinda blah about it.

On the contrary. There is this misconception when it comes to judge a movie: "Charecters must be likeable, good or bad"... I'll tell you one thing; most charecters in 'REAL' life are dull, colorless and has to go a lot of MAKE UP to appear on the screen.

Characters need not neccasarily be likable; but we should care one way or the other.

i mean i liked the movie but i did feel bad for the guys who wanted that so much. but it does leave you cock teased, just like they were.

Jarhead was a great movie! But it probably needed an american director to juice it up a bit. We brits don't like war you see.
