Farewell DVXuser

It has been fun everyone but all good things must come to an end.

Before I go I would like to say:

Karl151k, you are like the coolest guy I have ever met online...keep the guerilla, gritty, no light meter, overdubbed sound thing going. You can pull it off.

John Hudson, thank you for posting that glorious Super 8 footage which inspired me for my next project.

I'm leaving because sooner or later I'm going to say something that will get me banned so I might as well determine sooner instead! :banned:

DVXuser really is a cool site with a lot of help for DV folks of all skill levels. I just need to find a place that can help me more with movie making using film stock so I was curious if anyone knows of any good sites for old-style filmmaking? I would appreciate it...

Peace out!
Matthew

Try Indietalk

The only downside is you have to pay a yearly subscription fee i believe. But they have forums for 35mm, S!6 and such.

Old style filmmaking ? Last time I looked they were still using that ole filmstock stuff in Hollywood.

Do you just need to know how to load a magazine or what ? What about Lighting? Framing? Compostion? Mis-en-Scene? Audo? Editing? Becoming a skilled DP is one reason to seek out 'film-centric' sites but being a director has more to do with telling your story as opposed to the technical side of things.

The only difference between here and there is format. (And price)

Anyways; good luck.

I actually want to learn about the DP side of things although my goal is mainly to direct. I want to understand the technical sides of film so I am more well rounded and can survive if I can't find or afford a DP.

By learning the ropes of film, I was referring to lighting (I know that film requires more light than video, but I heard it is more forgiving which is helpful for me learning), understanding about different film stocks and their effect on the footage, filters to white balance (that is one thing I will miss about Digital...the nice and easy white balance), double system, syncing, different lenses (this is universal, I imagine, but I havent used film lenses on any digital platforms), and etc.

Funny all the stuff you talk about here, I know for a fact that we discuss on this board on a daily bases. If you need to know about stock or lense why don't you go post a thread and ask a question. I know allot of people on here that know allot more then just how to use a DV camera and camera's with fixed lense. This board has the most knowledgeable people out of any filmmaking board on the net. We have more people working in the industry and active on a board then any other I have found. These are guys that don't just pop up every once in awhile they are on here all the time every day.

So good luck my friend and I hope you find what your looking for but I dought it. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Err, why are you leaving DVXuser again, did I miss something? Sorry for asking seems a bit odd.

Wait a mo:

I'm leaving because sooner or later I'm going to say something that will get me banned so I might as well determine sooner instead!

But that’s like saying,
"sooner or later I may rob a bank So, I might as well rob one NOW"

SURE anyone here may theoretically have the possibility of being involved in the robbing of a financial institution, BUT that does not mean one needs to actually make a statistical probability into reality.

Yea, Lakmiro I agree with Anhar in certain respects. I've been jabbed once in awhile and have felt the urge to leave as well; feeling unapreaciated because of my noobness, or saying something in jest and being reprimanded.
That's when you have to deciede wether or not this is your life... or just part of it.
I love DVXuser and i'd go out of my way to help anyone here. But if it's decieded that I'm to be banned? Life moves on.
So anyway, I vote for lakmir0 to stay. And if no one else votes with me, who cares, right?

Anhar,I agree with what you said and I like how you said it. But you're trying to use logic on a young man who just said:

Do not call yourself a Filmmaker. The term filmmaker implies that you use film, hence the first four letters of the word.
Actually, filmmaker implies that you MAKE film. Hence the last five letters (a majority of the word.) If you "USE" film then you are a "filmUSER", not a filmmaker. A filmMAKER is someone who works in the factories at Fuji or Kodak actually creating the film that filmUSERS use.

Do you understand?

If you're going to take every word literally then you could write an entire dictionary on words that no longer mean what they use to mean. The term "filmmaker" is evolving and expanding. It's changing and adapting to the times, so it can survive. Be happy for it. You see, at one point there was only film. But now videomakers can shoot a movie on tape and then have it transferred to film. Is that person a video-to-filmmaker? Or 3d and 2d artists who output their creations on to film. They don't actually shoot film but, I could have sworn, I saw the film Finding Nemo and it was a great FILM.

Sorry, to hi-jack the thread, but the other one was locked before I could respond and, sense this guy is on his way out, might as well say what I gotta say. :)

PK - a monk with an attitude.

Seriously Lakmiro if you decide not to come back thats your choice and more power to you, but do you know how many people come to this site that are high level industry pros that respond to questions at least weekly, or submit info thats just plain hard to come by? If I were you I would reconsider, in fact no, I am asking please re consider as a fellow FILM MAKER you are doing yourself a diservice and thatsa shame.

Do you know how much I got ripped in my first post here? Well those days are long gone and here we are. I dont expect everyone to like me here as I have a slight edge, but I do feel most people respect that Im working to achieve the same thing as them and thats all that really matters, right?

Filmmaking is a collaborative effort. If you can't get along with others here,
what makes you think Hollywood is any easier?

We are guppies in shark infested water. Sink or swim.

Thankfully, that's a concern that I'll personally never have to worry about.:)

LakmirO - If you leave, I'll hunt you down like Varmint Cong.

I'm leaving too because sooner or later you all will realize that I'm taking your donations to support my miniature pony habit.
