Should I get the Zeiss or the Leica to film "Amoeba on a Plane?" Decisions, decisions.
The Leica DFC500 has a 12MP chip w/ 42 bit RGB color and also has color co-site-sampling.

hermetically sealed pixel magic

hermetically sealed pixel magic

How do they turn 1.4 MP into 12MP? Answer: magic.

The following is from a JENOPTIK pdf.

2/3“ 1.4 Mega pixel Progressive Scan CCD Image Sensor
Typ: Sony ICX285AQ
Active Area: 8.8 x 6.6 mm

Programmable Resolution
1360 x 1024 (1shot)
272 x 204 (5x Binning)
1360 x 1024 (4shot)
340 x 256 (HFRM)
2720 x 2048 (16shot)
453 x 340 (3x Binning)
4080 x 3072 (9shot)
680 x 512 (HFRM)
4080 x 3072 (36shot)

On account of the high
precision Microscanning and
Color Co-Site-Sampling the
hermetically sealed and
thermoelectrically cooled
1.4 mega pixel color sensor
generates an image resolution
of up to 12.5 mega pixels in
true colors – without calculated
interpolation.

back to Leica, I got sidetracked.

back to Leica, I got sidetracked.

Leica used to make their own chips but sold out.

"The name change is a result of last year’s takeover of Leica’s semiconductor business by Golden Gate Capital, an investment company located in San Francisco (CA), USA."
