An inexpensive case?

If it is a hard case your after, go with the PortaBrace Large hardcase for $99 bucks.
Got it from Markertek. Fits HVX and acces. well, pluck-e-pluck foam. Really is a bargain.

Picked up 2 more and a medium size for lens attachments.

Home depot hard case = $20. Scammers sell the EXACT same case as "photo" cases for $150 on ebay all day long. All they do is put foam in the home depot case. In any case, it's a nice hard case, looks great, and only costs $20. I'd give a link... but the home depot website is down right now. They look like polished aluminum with the little diamond design.

Check out cases4less.com. They have Pelican and Stormcases. I got my Stormcase from their -- mine is huge, so it was around $180, but they have smaller, cheaper ones.

these are good suggestions guys. do the hard cases come with the foam? if not, where could i buy it?

Mine came with foam. I think you can spec it without foam for a bit less -- not that you'd want to. It's pick-and-pluck, so you can shape it to your equipment. Works very well.

I ended up getting an aluminum case from Lowes and a foam mattress pad from Walmart. $25 for the case and $10 for the foam. Not too shabby.

Good call rc.

I went and picked up 2 of them from Home Depot tonight. along with some foam from Target

And what do you know? The foam enclosure for my M2 fits perfectly. So now I have a case for my M2 that cost about $22. Now I will use the other one for my lenses.

Thanks!

On the home depot with the add-in foam, what is the best way to cut the foam? Every time I've attemted this, it turned out less than satisfactory because I have to compress the foam, then that makes making a straight cut very difficult.

For my 16mm camera I used an old, crappy-looking hard suitcase I picked up for a dollar at a flea market. Then I cut-up a mattress pad and covered that with black satin. It works great. The key is to find a case that works well (i.e. latches, hinges, doesn't smell funny, etc.), but looks bad. The idea is that a thief is less likely to steal a sh!tty looking case as opposed to a pristine, bright-orange Pelican case designed for expensive gear.

That said, when I got my DVX100B this year, I bought a bright-orange Pelican case to put it in. What the F, you ask? Well, since I had invested significantly more into my DVX than my Bolex, I wanted something that was waterproof and dustproof as well as bombproof. I went for the bright-orange color because it wouldn't get as hot in the sun, and I can see it better in my peripherals if it ever starts to walk off my set.

Pelican cases are tough as hell, but you pay for that in weight. That Kata clamshell case looks pretty sweet.

If it's not pick-n-pluck, I found that a hacksaw, or a big serrated knife works well. Just go slow.
