DIY "Scrim Jim," any advice on how to make them.

I was wondering if anyone had information on how to make light diffusers similar to the Wescott Scrim Jims. Or how to make custom light diffusers in general. What kinds of materials (fabrics) are they made of and where can they be purchased.
 
Ill try to find a link when I get home - Im on my phone - but great, cheap, easy diffusers can be made with PVC pipe and ripstop nylon. I got my ripstop at Joann fabric.
