D80 official release... see it here.

"Compatibility with the Nikon Creative Lighting System allows the D80 to work seamlessly with SB-800, SB-600 and SB-R200 Speedlights to deliver the benefits of i-TTL flash control’s advanced monitor pre-flash, accurate measurement for bounce and versatile wireless operation. SB-800 and SB-600 Speedlights also offer a Wide-Area AF-assist Illuminator, which aids flash photography in dim light by projecting a pattern of red light that covers all eleven autofocus areas of the D80’s 11-area Multi-CAM 1000 AF Sensor Module."

I get the impression that the D80 does do "commander mode" as expected.

A quick look and I'm having a hard time finding differences between the D80 and D200...except the price, of course...:(

EDIT: I had to go out into Nikonland to find out more about the D80/D200 comparisons. I saw the differences. The D80 is going to be one hell of a camera. The D200 will still have a few advantages and if I were buying in the near future, I might save some money (estimated $250 dollar difference) but I'm still happy with my purchase. The D200 should last me for years. It's the first camera I've bought since my FE3 over 17 years ago.

I want this camera really baddly, but will wait until the end of the year when units are on shelves. I think I'm even going to keep the D50 just as a back up.

That's actually a very good idea, especially considering they use the same storage media.

A lot of people were pissed about the SD card, but I like them and dont have a problem with it... then again, I'm now invested into SD, but honestly, 2 Gigs is like $40? I just want to yell to the winers on dpreview, '***** about something else'

If this camera is <$1000 I am buying one immediately.

The fact that mine used CF was a big point for me since I was using CF in other applications. I had two 1GB CF cards. I just bought a 2GB card. It wouldn't have been a deal breaker if it was SD but it was nice that it was CF. I wanted a Nikon since I already had a collection of older Nikkor lenses.

Well I just want this camera.

I have no lens lust, but a hardcore case of camera lust... screwed up world we live in.
