DVD video is skipping. Any solutions?

I recently exported my pp 1.5 project to dvd. A few of the settings were 4x3 low quality vbr 2 pass, mpeg audio, 12 and 3 __ and __ frames ( I forget the letters), 24fps, 1h 50m in length....

And the dvd plays on multiple dvd players, but at certain points the dvd skips and misses entire sequences. Is this what "dropped frames" is? It's not just little glitches, the video pauses for a second and then skips a few seconds or minutes of footage and continues playing.

But, I am able to rewind to the parts that were skipped over and it starts playing normal again.

It seems that I have been working an eternity just to get my project on a DVD, and when I finally do, it doesnt work properly. Any help someone can afford will be greatly appreciated.

claxius,
Are you making a NTSC or PAL DVD? Mpeg audio is only legal on PAL DVDs. For NTSC, your choices are PCM or AC3 (Dolby). This might cause some playback issues.

wow. i am using mpeg for ntsc. ill try pcm and see if that is the case. thank you so much.

I hope that helps. Unfortunately, I've run into playback issues with PCM as well. I've had best results with AC3 Dolby. It's too bad that the only option for AC3 with PPro seems to be the stupidly expensive Surcode add-on. I suggest you consider a seperate DVD authoring program. Even the less expensive ones seem to offer AC3 Dolby encoding nowadays.

ok. thanks. i have roxio and nero but ive had probelms with them as well. with roxio it only reads the audio and not the video. and with nero, it only excepts 3 wierd file extensions like .ivo, or somehting weird like that.

Any ideas?

Personally, I don't like the roxio/nero kitchen sink packages. They seem to take over a system in ways that I don't like. I do have Nero Ultra but I only install the backup/burning ROM portions. I was thinking more in terms of an application specifically designed for DVD authoriing. I like Encore DVD myself but before that I used Ulead DVD Moviefactory. It was limited but worked well. It didn't do AC3 back when I switched to Encore but now it does.

The most common DVD skipping cause in my experience has been burning the disk at too high a speed. They say to go about half the speed your burner/media will accept but personally I go for the lowest speed I can get.

Other than that, I agree with TeleDan about Encore. Nero is cool for throwing together a mixed CD but it's not quite up to par when it comes to more advanced processes like those involved in DVD authoring.
