Well we all know about Mel Gibsons recent indescretion with the law. We all know he did and said some silly things in the heat of the moment. But to believe Mel is truly an anti semite is taking it to the enth degree isnt it? Whole thing seems blown way out of porportion.

Then this from Rob:

Schneider Slams Gibson

Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo star Rob Schneider is the first actor to publicly announce he will never work with Mel Gibson due to the anti-Semitic remarks he made when he was arrested last Friday. Schneider took out an ad in Hollywood trade paper Variety slamming the star for his behavior in "An Open Letter to the Hollywood Community." The ad appeared yesterday and said, "I, Rob Schneider, a 1/2 Jew, pledge from this day forth to never work with Mel Gibson-actor-director-producer-and anti-Semite." Schneider then went on to say even if he were offered the lead role in Passion Of The Christ 2 or a "juicy voice-over role in his new flick Apocalypto and spoke ancient Mayan" he would still turn them down. He also repeatedly praised Hollywood talent manager Bernie Brillstein for publicly saying he would refuse to work with Gibson because "I just don't like bigots." The actor continued by saying he had recently directed a film called Big Stan in which there was a part for a Nazi gang leader "which apparently Mel would be perfect for." Schneider said he would still not cast Gibson in that role and ended the letter by saying, "Of course that would only be after I talked with my financial backers. Some of whom share Mr. Gibson's hankering for a good bottle of tequila. Because, after all...I don't get to call all the shots."

Hmmm but the only issue is I just couldnt forsee a hack like shneider ever being cast in a Mel Gibson movie anyway? Did he get rejected in the past?

I was on the frontpage of DVXuser and I saw the Cafe section had a new post titled "Rob Schneider..." and then ravinesedge's name under it. And it freaked me out. I thought something had happened to our boy Rob. Geez! Don't do that!

I don't think he's Anti-Semetic. (and I'm even jewish!) I do however think he may be slightly racist. Although, most people are. I think people responding to him are only looking to be noticed. "Look I can be cool and jump on the Mel-Hate bandwagon!" I do think however mel is a little overboard.

I don't think Mel is anti-semitic, but it's pretty well known that his father is. And Mel grew up around that and he's pretty messed up and needs help.

Racism is just a quantification of hatred. It gives the emotionally blind a direction to follow. Otherwise they would just overheat and explode. Either you're a hateful person, or you're not. That's all I see in people.

If someone says "I hate this group of people for reason X" then they're just dishing out anger that they can't control due to other problems they don't want to face. I guess the same thing could be said for posting an ad that says "I, actor, will never work with X director, producer"

It's all simple math really

What someone says in a drunken state can be completely opposite/different that what someone actually thinks. And to persecute someone and lash out at someone (mel gibson) for a personal problem does no good in my opinion. I was very disappointed in Mel when I heard he said those things... but I just hope for the best, rather than shun him.

I'm a huge Mel Gibson fan, but I definitely feel he has some issues to deal with (driving drunk is one of them). Someone (even if they're drunk) doesn't start that kind of fire unless they have the spark already inside them. Alcohol lowers the inhibitions and "can" magnify hidden truths. Mel's tequila turned that little anti-semetic spark he's been hiding into a big fire that even his PR person can't put out.

We all say things we don't mean sometimes. But, you have to admit, it comes from somewhere. Maybe a little resentment or bitterness from our past. Maybe a memory that we never resolved. Mel can try and talk his way out of this but he's got to deal with this anger he's hiding or it will just come out again.

He's lucky it ended this way, instead of him killing someone with his car.

i agree PK. i personally think it was the alcohol talking, but there had to have been some reason it came out while he was drunk... probably from his dad.

Sorry

agree on Schneider most of his films are total crap. Mel is a superstar we all know this, though this doesn't give him an inevitable license to offend others. I think he's still bitter that the same community that he's insulting was the same one that tried to halt his jesus film. He hasn't gotten over that. MR Mad Max should come down to earth and slow it down.

I don't think he has any resentment towards the Jewish community for trying to hault his film.

Look at the film's profits!

Anyways, that is another good point: what Mel said probably had to have come from a spark somewhere, but sometimes we DO say things we DONT mean.

Is this some alternate universe or something? To say this man isn't an anti-semite is absurd. I appreciate that he's verbally taken responsibility for his actions and condemned them and acknowledged that he needs help, but c'mon? He said that one group of people started every war in history. That's damn close to blaming one group for all of history's worst attrocities and evils. Bigotry is made up of ignorance, anger, and self-loathing - this man apparently has all the ingredients. It doesn't do him or anyone else any good to make his transgressions more palatable.

Then again, being drunk can obviously (this situation is proof) extend what someone believes or thinks into irrational bullshit.

He may have something lingering in his heart, but maybe his drunkeness just EXTENDED that. He is obviously sorry and is pleading to meet with the Jewish community.

It might now be a good time to decide if he is sincere in his apologies and efforts. He's like a mouse trapped in a corner right now. He's going to say whatever he can to get out alive.

A man who has everything to lose is usually only sorry he'll lose everything.

Hey, that actually sounded like a monk talking. :)

Who really knows but Mel. Maybe he's having a problem with a specific person of Jewish ancestry and with the alcohol expanding the blame. Per the following story his personal bodyguard for the last decade is Israeli so obviously he does not dislike all Jews.

And as for Rob Schneider, at this point the movies he has starred in tend to be a bit disgusting for my taste so I pay him zero attention.

Everyone is a little racist. Or just has a litte sprinkle of hate bottled up.

On top of that, Rob sucks as an actor, if Mel ever casted him, he should apologize to the world for doing that, and I hope no one forgives for that mistake.
