Children of Men

Someone else had a thread on this one.

But hell yea i'm looking forward to it. I love the concept and it looks like part of it was filmed in Beirut during the 80s for Christsakes.

looks awesome. Sick crazy good concept.

Is this an american british co-pro? i'm guessing yes.

Looks amazing.

Just saw this today...(limited release here in LA and NY) and I gotta say, this was an excellent film. I went and saw it with my buddy Daniel (Noa) and he liked it very much as well... There are some really awesome amazingly long handheld shots in the film, the acting is great, the premise is powerful, and the futuristic vision is intense. Go see it when you can.

it was on a limited release in holland a while ago. i guess this was released in europe before the US. but i wasnt able to go see it cause it wasn't playing anywhere near where i live :(

I REALLLLLLY want ot see this.

I read about it in ASC magazine.... The DP worked his ass off. He had to pull off the "no lighting" ( but secretly there really is lighting) effect. I love that look.

Check IMDb- it's in a few other cities besides LA and NY. I just saw it in Dallas a few nights ago- I believe it's also in Atlanta, Boston, and elsewhere.

AMAZING film though. Really- I want to say more, but the less you know about it going in, the better. Absolutely heartbreaking, and technically just...staggering. Some entire SEQUENCES in the movie are shot in one continuous take, and my brain hurts just thinking about how they could've pulled some of it off. Your jaw's gonna be on the floor for some of that stuff. Amazing movie. Just see it.

Yeah, I couldn't even keep track of how long shots went on for. It was insane.

I saw this movie last month, it came out in New Zealand early. Finally we get to see a film before it hits the U.S (this is very rare haha). I really liked this film.

I thought it had some terrific moments and I really enjoyed the long sequences. I came out of this film feeling really wierd, in a good way. (If that makes any sense at all) It was a great watch and I would like to see this again!

just saw it. gotta agree with the long takes. amazing!

like the one near the end where he walks on the streets and goes through the bus.

the entire film you just follow the characters without a lot of cuts and close ups.
and because the production and effects look so good it's a pure joy to watch. it becomes more of an experience.

ending was a little abrupt but when you think about it, it fitted the style. wont say anything more so i dont spoil anything for those who haven't watched it yet.

The long shot was actually a couple edited together, I believe. Prior to Clive going upstairs there was dirt on the camera. After the camera looked up the stairs and came back down to Clive it was clean again. However, prior to that, it was almost 5 minutes straight that looked like no edits. And was follow by another two long shots.

Amazing film.

From the director and DP of the film, quoted from the L.A. Times article posted above . . . "Try to shoot on location. Try not to light it. Shoot with the lead actors and with real backgrounds." I love these guys!

Last night Guillermo del Toro was on the soundtrack channel of XM radio and was praising the work of Alfonso Cuarón. It was a good interview, and I am glad to see movies by both of these guys out right now. Looking forward to finally seeing Pan's Labrynth.

POSSIBLE SPOILER!!!!!!!!!

Back to Children of Men, I have yet to talk to person who wasn't blown away with the crying scene at the end of the film. Such a powerful moment, while not going overboard or being cheese.
