Paul W.S. Anderson : What will he mess up next?

I could check but I think the spear and arm guard thing was in the original comic. The burning finger to the forehead bit was from the 90 Dark Horse comic. At least it didnt end like the comic did--with the woman fighting alongside a predator hunting party. Pathetic.

My brother kept telling me that it should have been void of humans. It should've just been predators versus aliens, just fighting it out. They could use subtitles for communication between the predators.

It always seemedl ike a stretch, but it sounds better and better the more I think about the version Hollywood made.

Thats not working for me; who cares about a bunch of Predators and Aliens duking it out ? (No offense to your brothers idea)

Still; PTA screwed it up big time.

True.

But if you read the character descriptions you'll groan out loud.

A bad script is a bad script and it seems that AvP 2 has the makings of a bad script.

Albeit i haven't read the script so maybe they took a bunch of tired cliches and pulled the proverbial "rabbit out of their @ss".

We'll see.

Honestly, the first one blew so much, I have zero interest in the sequel.
Unless Ridley Scott was doing it.

I rarely if ever watch these kinds of films ... much more an art or foreign film fan, but I watched AVP last night and after shutting off my brain, was moderately entertained ... at least more entertained than I expected to be.

Looking over his credits, I realize Event Horizon was the only other film of his I've seen and I thought that was pretty good too.

I always sort of assumed AvP would be set deep in space, way off in the future. A future where aliens and predators were at war (between planets, or a dispute of some kind). In the middle of this a spaceship of humans got lost in space and crash lands on a planet that just happens to be where there is this war. Then they just try to survive and make contact with "earth" or "home planet" or something....
I don't know, maybe my idea is crap.

As long as Anderson doesn't touch it.

Man... really, this guy.

I will never get over how he ruined the easiest video game translation ever. That's just the stick in the mud for myself.

Fine, screw up AvP. I don't care about that. Okay, so you did really bad with Mortal Kombat. All things considered, the game is about ripping another beings head off anyway... there wasn't much story to begin with.

But Resident Evil? Come... ON.

Freaking I want to punch my screen.

Totally agree Kholi.

If ever a videogame lended itself to film adaptation the Resident Evil games were prime examples.

Can you imagine how epic the climax of RE2 would've been on a big screen?

Omfg. Man, you just have no idea. It baffles me how you could totally disrespect the content like that.

It wasn't like he had to adapt from a book, which had no prior visuals aside from those percieved by each individual reader. He not only had a complete visual pallet to work with, but the simplest story line EVER.

There was no karate in Resident Evil, there was only running like hell and blasting your way through infested beings.

He could've avoided wasting massive amounts of money on "The Hive" by sticking with the first Resident Evil formula and using a huge mansion.

And RE2? Don't even get me started on how easy it was to simply adapt this.

Why RE3? It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best of the bunch and he borrowed heavily from that. Nemesis is a great enemy, but he wasn't scary in the movie. in the game, this bastard punches his way through walls when you least expect him to be around.

You see him coming on security cameras and the next thing you know, he rams his way through the wall behind you.

I swear, if he adapts Resident Evil 4 and messes it up? I'll lose all hope for video game adaptations.

Resident Evil 4 is nothing more than a horror movie. It plays like one more than any other RE game released prior.

It frustrates me so much.

I feel so alone here :)

I enjoyed AvP...Sure the plot's not Citizen Kane, (yes, understatement) but c'mon.

Aliens - Awesome.
Predators - Awesome.

What's not to love?

I actually thought it was pretty cool when Sanaa Lathan (sp?) got all decked out in Alien bodypart weaponry.

But seriously, someone tell me why this movie sucks so much? Specifically? It's not a rhetorical question, I really want to know. 'Cause this flick has been reamed a LOT.

BTW, I could be 100% wrong about this flick and maybe I need to go watch it again. All I know is that I've seen it twice and liked it each time.

I see no reason why it can't be granted the title of "Totally Enjoyable Popcorn Entertainment."

EDIT

I saw AvP before I'd ever seen any of the Alien Quad. - and liked it so much that I rented them all and had a marathon viewing of all four in order...LOVED them, of course. However, the only two that are really great are Alien and Aliens - I really don't think AvP is any worse than Alien3 or Resurrection...Far better, IMHO. :)

Did anyone actually care about the humans in AvP?

[SPOILER]

The ones that were designed for us to care about were killed off in a matter of seconds! Then it was just the bland heroine!

[END SPOILER]

Let's put it in a lesser of two evils situation: Paul WS Anderson doing humans, aliens, and predators, or aliens and predators fighting it out directed by someone like ridley scott?

It'd be a wonderful exercise in filmmaking--making the audience care about predators or aliens duking it out. I'm sure someone could do that well. And even if they didn't do it well, i'm sure it'd probably gain a top five spot at the box office, cuz the general population doesn't give a **** about the stuff we dig on.

Not to mention that the Alice character FIST FIGHTS THE NEMESIS at the end of the movie. I mean come the hell on! You know what would have happened i nthe game if someone tried to fist fight the nemesis? The exact same thing that happened to cowardly ol' Brad Vickers at the start of the 3rd. That ***** would've gotten a tentacle through the face.

RE4, if they just adapted it to the game and not to Anderson's stupid RE world, would be insanely good. Who do you think would be a good director for it?

Anyone but Anderson... I would say George Romero, or William Peter Blatty.

Blatty maybe but not Romero.

I think G. R. is a little to hung up on the wacky social commentary aspect of his films to deliver something truly creepy.

Actually I wouldn't mind seeing Brad Anderson take a stab at it. Or Rob Zombie for that matter. Aren't there creepy Hungarian red necks in it?

Romero, Carpenter, Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead 04)

Those are my first three off handed choices.

Dawn of the Dead 04 had so much Resident Evil sensation it was ridiculous.

Snyder would/should be the prime candidate for an RE4 adaptation. They should fire Anderson and bring him on board. He'll be cheaper, probably, and way more effective.

I'm not saying that I could do a better job than Anderson on Resident Evil....

But I could do a better job than Andersn on Resident Evil.
