How do I put multiple images on the screen playing at the same time?

This being my first post, please excuse the newbie-ness.

If I wanted to put more than one clip playing on the playback screen at one time, similar to Aronofksy's Requiem for a Dream, in order to show >=2 perspectives and/or items at a time, how do I do this?

I've searched for this in the archives, but cannot find the answer. Is this even possible with FCP?

Thx.
Aaron

Yes, its quite possible with FCP. First place the two clips into the timeline. With one being on the first layer and the second above it on the second. Then do these steps with both clips. Open them in the viewer and click on the motion tab. In there on the scaling enter the numeric value you want. With 100 being normal sized. Once you have re-sized your clips you will have to position them on the canvas however you like by simply clicking and dragging them around the screen. In addition to moving them with the mouse you can also move them by entering X and Y values in the center option underneath the Motion tab. The values will correspond to the position of the center of the frame.

Great, I'll try this. I'm assuming that if you have more than one clip, you simply enter the scaling that will allow you to position them like you want?

Thanks for the help.

Yep, pretty much. Obviouslly if you go in and scale them to 50 making them both halfsized you will still only see the top most clip because positioning them on screen is still necessary. So just play around to find out what the best scaling and positioning is right for the effect you need.

And if I wanted 2 images to play on top of each other (ie- transparently) as is so often used with the image of fire over something?

I'm not sure if I completely understand your question, but if you want an image to be played over top another then select the clip on top and lower its opacity to reveal the image below. The amount you lower it to will depend on the look you are trying to achieve.

Try cropping the edges slightly as well by about 2 pixels so they don't look like crap around the edge.

If you turn on "Image+Wireframe" in the Canvas window, you can just resize, rotate, crop your clips with your mouse right there in that window.
