Camcorder Filter To look at the sun

I find it really annoying whenever I want to do a nice sunset shot and then those stupid lines streaking away from the sun pop up. Is there any filter I can put on my camera that will remove those lines. I just want to know if it exists or not.

I think he is talking about those lines that appear because of the small CCD, not a lense flare. I forget what they are called, however.

Streaking? hmmm, never really had a problem with it and the DVX. Tall, are you shooting with a DVX? And just how eary in the day are you pointing the camera at the sun before the sun goes down?

He may be talking about zebras?

I don't even have my DVX yet so I don't know what zebras look like but he could be overexposed.

Probably talking about vertical smear - common with CCD's and intense light sources. Could try shooting through a lot of ND (or a welders helmet, ha!) . Problem is, once you get the sun knocked down you may not see anything else.

Not much you could about that though. Try a polarizer then add ND as needed.

Try lowering the F-stop (increasing the number). I seem to get more vertical smear when the iris is at OPEN.

Vertical smear is caused by the CCD. As each CCD pixel is overloaded, it spills over to thenext one, then the next one, and so on. That's what causes the vertical smear.

Sony's "hyper HAD" CCD chips are designed to prevent this.
