Thanks for Coming to Long Beach

Blaine

Mr. Hollywood
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the DVXUsers (and their family and friends) who made the trek down to Long Beach for the showing of our movie, Hollywood Gothic, at the Action On Film International Film Festival.

Kimko, Slimothy, msconce, Brandon Rice, Director21j (and Steve Oliver).
Thanks, Kimko, Tim, Matt, Brandon, Jeff and Steve.

I had a great time as was really pleased with the turnout.

It was also fun watching Brandon's, Matt's and Justin's (Snodart) movies on the "big screen". The DVX held up nicely. Also, it turns out there was another DVXUser there on Saturday, Scott Brown aka Scobee with his short: Shakespeare's Dead.

A big thumbs up to everyone that came by and/or had their movie in the fest!!!

Thanks again, everyone and it was great getting the opportunity to meet you in person.

that was kool seeing some dvx people(what an exciting group of people i'm gonna party with you animals some day), Blaine's on the big screen was great! we got to meet the cast. Slimothy pointed out Briceman so we snuck up on him waiting in line and stood very close to him breathing down his neck making him very nervous until he turned around when he saw it was me...he got really nervous, i gave him my looook..

haha... I totally was surprised by ya walking up on me there... fun times.

I wasn't able to come Friday night so I missed seeing yours Blaine :( Glad to hear there was a decent turnout though.

Our drive down Saturday was eventful...
We ended up right behind a nasty hit and run on the 22. The guy slammed into the side of two cars in the slow lane, then into a car in front of us in the fast lane, backed up and slammed the divider, backed up again and hit the fast lane car once more, and then took off. My wife is a pediatrician so we stopped to help. The car in the fast lane had a baby inside that wasn't buckled up correctly in a car seat that was waaay too loose. Luckily everybody was fine though. I got a good look at the guy and somebody else got the plates so we stayed to give the info. Apparently the driver got off the freeway and nailed 5 more cars before getting stuck on a median. I'm not sure how the people in the other 5 cars came out. They did catch the idiot though.

At any rate, we missed seeing Brandon and Matt's films Saturday morning.

Thanks to those who showed up at Cache.... all 5 of you. :)

The fest was fun. It was smaller than I had expected, but still great. I'm glad that this was my first one, it was a nice intro. Being that it is only in its 2nd year, I can't wait to see it grow in the years to come.

I wish I would have run into more DVXers. I did have a good chat with Blaine and a quick one with Brandon, so that was great. Always great to meet the people behind the keyboards.

Kimko, did you go down in the basement and throw some bodies around? My wife and I spent some time between flicks watching the jiu-jitsu matches. We met some crazy 57 year old surgeon at lunch who had just finished up a couple of matches. I practiced Aikido for a while in the Navy, but I think I'll see if there is good jiu-jitsu dojo near my area.

My brother-in-law and I will be going to the Palm Springs Shortfest. We have gone for the last 3 years. If you guys haven't been, you should make a strong effort to go. It is considered "the largest market and festival for short films in North America". It is August 24 - 30th. There is some amazing work shown there.

One of our next goals in this filmmaking venture is to have something great ready for Palm Springs next year.

Anyway, maybe some of use could meet up down there and talk shop.

I had a blast. Some shorts were good, some were not so good, but I learned from all of them. Unfortunately I was only able to make it one day, but next time I'll make plans to be there more days. Once again, nice meeting everyone and I can't wait till the next one.

Tim.

i wasn't there sat. snodart to see yours, but i came back sun. to listen to the panel. great info they gave. i learnt a lot uhuh, yes i did! i got to see some people downstairs i haven't seen in years. i didn't know the Long Beach Internationals was going on.

I was at the Fest, but I only got to touch bases with Scott (great guy by the way) I saw Kimko and Brandon from a distance... You know how you look at people that you think you know and recognize, but you don't want it to seem like you're starin'. That's all I got to see of them. It was a fun event. Our leading lady got Best Female Action Performer of the Year at the fest for her role in our Vigilantes movie that screened there.

SmithHouse

It was great meeting SmithHouse and Blaine! I hope to meet more at the next festival we all end up at.
Thanks again Blaine for checking out our short Shakespeare's Dead ( we ended up winning Best Score ).
It was neat to see so many great looking films shot with the DVX. One of the best complements we got was that our film looked like it had been shot on Super 16.
Scott
