Will the Firestore FS-100 run on 12 volts?

The connector says 15volts, but I read somewhere it's only 15 volts to charge. I hear you should be able to run it on 12volts, but I'd like to be sure. It seems most items except the HVX200 itself will run on 12volts.

I'm realizing this is probably a stupid question since the powertap-fs is obviously just a standard tap with a standard plug on the front. I bet it would be used to power any 12v item. Like a wireless transmitter or the M2 or whatever. Hmmmm . . . .

According to information from Matt McEwen from Focus Enhancements, the FS100 can run on voltages ranging from 10 to 17 volts DC. But to charge the battery, you'll need 14 volts or more.

Check to make sure the plug is providing the proper polarity as a few actually have it reversed.

Check the markings on the Firestore's socket. That will give you info on what the polarity should be.

Then use a voltmeter to see if the power being supplied is correct.

If this is not familiar to you I'd suggest having someone with knowledge of basic electronics to help you. Some devices will protect themselves against reversed polarity. Others will just get fried in an instant.

Also note that these plugs come in different sizes. Inside and outside diameters will vary by fractions of a millimeter so measuring them to ensure a good fit will help prevent inadvertent power loss. There's 2.1 mm, 2.5 mm, 2.75 mm, etc.

DCSensui is correct, the polarity is detailed on the base of the FS-100 near the DC input. Basically centerpin + and sleeve -.

Hope that helps,

Matt McEwen

Thanks for the info. I was just going to get this from Nebtek. You think I need to explain all this to them?
