Any good books on FCP5?

I learn really well by just teaching myself through books, and i was curious to know if anyone could recommend any good books on FCP5 or any other program in the final cut suite, (motion, soundtrack, studio, etc...).

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I would tell you but I always fall asleep in the first few pages of any technical manual I read.

FCP Studio comes with a ton of books. None better to learn with than the actual manuals!

I thought about purchasing those books, but than I was giving books by my local tv studio. I'm not quite sure on the titles, but they are not the Pro Series that apple offers. They are great though and are easier to understand if your new to mac and FCP like myself.

All the best

I have Larry Jordan's book on 4.5, but the 5 version is out now. Excellent. His website/free newsletter are also good resources.

As a professional educator (my degree was in Educational Psychology), and as an experienced FCP trainer, I have to strongly back the Apple Pro Training Series. The tutorial material is great, you'll learn to really edit fast and efficiently. Don't let the large size scare you, they're really easy and quick to get through.

Thanx for all the recommendations. I think im leaning towards the Apple series books. I've been editing on vegas for years and love it but my degree requires me to edit on FCP and AVID, so i gotta learn them all.

Abz- So you're unsure about the titles of the books you were given?

The APTS books also include the title, "Final Cut Pro 5 For Avid Editors". I think they mean the NLE "Avid", not editors "having or showing a keen interest in or enthusiasm for editing." Sorry, couldn't pass that one up...

The book that I am currentyl on is Final Cut Pro 5 by </Larry Jordan This book also includes a Training DVD. This book is helping me understand the work flow and tools to use and I'm only on page 38 lol.

The second book which i was given is Final Cut Pro HD by Lisa Brennies. I was told this book was good when your in a hurry and you need to find something quick. I'm assuming it has a good index as well.

If you decide to go with the apple pro training series, let me know as I may decide to purchase that.

All the best in your hunt,
Andrei

p.s. Go to your local book store and see if they have a copy, if they do, read a few pages before buying some place cheaper online

I am sold on the Apple Pro Training Series. I'm currently working through Final Cut Pro 5 right now. It's so well put together I just ordered 6 others from the series that cover the rest of the Studio package. If I'm gonna drop that kind of cash for some programs I better damn well learn how to use 'em.

Like BenB said, it's been "really easy and quick to get through." And for me "fast and efficient" is definitely the goal. Totally satisfied.

I ordered from www.peachpit.com/applebooklet. By purchasing more than 3 books and signing up for a membership you'll save 50%. Solid. Plus, they ship for free in the states. Good customer service too. I'm in Afghanistan and they put me at ease by quickly responded to my e-mail questions about APO addresses. They earned this plug.

p.a.h.
