Hi, just got the Century Optics .6 wide angle adaptor. What a chunk of glass!
I was wondering if any of you other owners out there have put a filter or something on it to protect the lens, and if so, what diameter/brand you used?
The threads are non-standard, so nothing will work. I got the rectangular 100mm ABS black lens hood (Item LH-100PW) and plastic step down ring (Item ARP495) (100mm to 95mm) from Cavision.com for $ 71 USD. Gives some protection but not like a filter would. It also intrudes slightly at the edges. Better than nothing. A matte box with filters would work f you want to spend the cash. Too bad Century didn't provide a standard thread on this one.
I cannot understand why they would maker these lenses with non standard threads and without a simple way to protect them. I mean surely it can't be that hard!??
Thanks for your suggestions guys, I appreciate it.
I went to the Century Optics website and asked them this question, and here's a the response. So now we know why. It's a shame I have to spend $1125 to protect a 3 hundred dollar lens! But at least they got back to me with a quick explanation.
Dear Richard,
The only solution we offer for the .6X is a matte box part
#0DS-MB44-CWK $1125.00. The lens at 4.5mm with the .6X attached is just
to wide for any of our shades or filters, vignetting will occur. For
this reason the threads on the front of the attachment are non standard
and its only purpose is to thread the retaining ring to hold the front
element in place.
In the case of the 1.6X tele we do offer a 102mm Clear UV filter Stock#
68-120021 $185.00.

David
