Confusing / Thinking movies

I'd say Primer and Adaptation,

Adaptation makes you think but everything makes sense and is really entertaining too and Primer requires a high IQ to understand, I didn't 100% understand everything that was going on in it, very confusing

One of the things that makes Primer a bit more confusing and i forget where i read this but i believe the director Shane Carruth ran out of money to shoot or reshoot certain scenes and edited the film together to the best of his ability to make it as cohesive as possible.

I don't care how you slice it there are a few things that just plain don't make sense in that movie and i've read too many interviews and discussions that claim certain things occur off camera and you're left to suppose certain things and thats what makes this movie so clever. I disagree with this P.O.V.

I do think its a clever film (mostly because of the concept and its execution) and i enjoy it greatly but i still think its flawed however, not necessarily because of any fault of Carruth its just he didn't have the kind of backing he should have had to make Primer.

The Village totally made me feel like an idiot at the ending, and the sixth sence made me watch 3 times. I really like those kinds anyone suggest any ?

these are the type of movies ive been looking for recently. i really liked the village, but i didnt like the 6th sense, although i predicted the end of both of them pretty early on. id say some better movies that make you think would be Session 9 and Primer. Session 9 is shot beautifully and ive watched it a dozen times finding new stuff each time. The Machinist and The Jacket are also pretty good and make you think.

A Clockwork Orange and most things by Kubrick, Fight Club, Persona(and as someone said before anything by berman, Solaris, Dogville, Failsafe, Bullworth and so on. There are so many, most have been mentioned here.

I would be good if you start with "confusing" movies and then move on to "hardcore confusing movies".

- Memento
- The Rules of Attraction
- Pi
- Pulp Fiction

Amenábar's movies:
- Open your Eyes - In my opinion I enjoyed this one lots more than the remake.
- Thesis - he made this movie when he was 23ish.
- The Others... which you have already seen.

The king Pedro Almodovar:
- All About My Mother
- Talk to Her
You might want to check Bad Education as well for its very complex story structure - If you are a screenwriter or filmmaker this is a good watch.

Other confusing movies are: Legally Blonde 1 & 2, Prince and Me 1 & 2 and Ice Princess.

At the end of the spectrum of confusionizazationism you can check titles such as:
- Mullholand Drive - Excellent
- Lost Highway
- Blue Velvet
- Lovers of the Artic Circle - Excellent
- Cows
- The Spirit of the Beehive

These are all good. Now if you want to see emotionally complex movies... then you have to check out Lars Von Tier: Breaking the waves and Dogville. My suggestion is... don't do it unless you are a masochistic Filmmaker/Screenwriter. These are REAL DOWNERS, especially the "setless" 3 hour epic Dogville.

PS: Kubrick is great too!

Yeah, I agree. I love that movie, but it has always been extremely clear that it's just not all there. And he says as much in interviews. It was his first film, and he says he thought he was being all clever by getting only one take of things, and saving so much on film. Until he got to the editing room. From what I've read and heard of him, it had more to do with not getting enough coverage.

But I watch that movie over and over and love it.

I love The Village. The ending couldn't be better.

The Village is often seen as an allegory for what is speculated to be a representation of the post 911 trauma. It is said it is also hinted in other movies of that time such as The Invencibles and I Love Huckabees. You could also watch I Heart Huckabees.
However, when you finally get tired of "confusing" movies you can always go back to Shaun of the Dead! :)

Underrated film, but still laughably bad to the point of excruciating - but is not worse than Signs (don't see how anyone likes that).

Funny, I just went to Tower "arm n' leg" Records to browse. The Village, brand new on DVD, was not even ten bucks.

Great, I'll have to pick up another copy so my friends don't scratch mine, and what a great price. Thanks for the heads up on the deal of the century:thumbsup:
