Wow that is a great sunset shot... I like the accents of the sun's rays and the seagull. Really nice.

I think that is your best IR shot so far Jeremy... I'm wondering if it takes an IR camera conversion to get the IR shots with the totally white foilage, black bark, and blue skies? Or is that a lot of Photoshop?

cheez, great sunset.

A gave myself a little task of element removal from one of the pics I shot while in PA last Wednesday:

And after:

Only a little Curves. Mostly just a test to get rid of elements.

Nothing overly impressive about the shot itself, but I am going to try my hand at doing that with video soon.

I think it is a combination of either using a higher end IR filter and better photoshop skills. Technically with even the R72 you can get that sort of result though.

Rapier, that is amazing and seemless. I showed my roommate and she was amazed, really great work!

Tomorrow is the big day to submit the photos! C'mon everyone...

OK, and here are two more IR pictures I took yesterday while getting my 'where I live' shot.

Those look great! Any chance you'd spill the beans on your settings?

Just a heads-up in case people here hadn't noticed -- new Nikon DSLR to replace the D70s as of August 9th :) (edit: nevermind )

Howdareme... lemme' place a bet... do you by chance have an sb-800 and sb-600... or perhaps a pair of sb-800's?

Both set for 3-strobe... on-cam down 1/3 EV and off-cam on FULL?

Something like that?

1/30 shutter in the first shot... 1/8 or so in the second?

thanks

thanks

I actualy dont have a speedlight. Used the flash though. I shot em using my D50, i just got it about 2 months ago. I slowed the shutter down on both of them to 1 sec. The first one's f stop was 3.5 and the seconds was 4.

just remembered

just remembered

The guy next to me was shooting with a speedlight, guess it only helped my pictures!!!

Well today is the day to post our photo's from our little weekly challenge thing... who will deliver and who will no show?

I went through hell trying to get this done. I went out on Saturday afternoon and took about 75 shots from different locations, some IR, some normal. Last night about 10:30 I sat down to post process them and every picture I openned looked like crap. I got really pissed and at 11 left the house to shoot more... in the rain!

Ultimately I'm pretty happy with my result and will post tonight. I can't wait to see what everyone has come up with and think that this is going to be a great project.

Howdareme... in the first shot you can see there was a flash pop behind the guy within that same 1 second exposure... and in the second one there are 2 or 3 consecutive flash pops off to the right. That second shot was done with a strobing flash... I guess somebody else brought that and you lucked out by hitting the shutter at just the right moment to catch 3 of his multiple flashes.

The thing I really like about that shot is there's a Ken Rockwell review where he says how stupid strobe is on any flash... he says "it's a salesmode that's totally worthless to include on any flash"... with your shots that argument is over. I thought the middle blur position was planned for effect... and it still looks good... but had you desired to you could have captured the progress of a move with your own strobe flash instead of getting lucky with that other guy.

I love shots like that though... still very good, but it's the other flash that made 'em dynamic.

Can the 'where I live' challenge be from the perspective of any living and where it lives or does it have to realte to were I actually live?

I think it is how you define it... I took it literally, but I think it is completely open to interpretation.

Just run with it. I'll be posting mine about 8pm tonight or so.

My Submission

My Submission

Well I guess I'll post mine first because I'm done and just sitting on it.

I really struggled with this project and had a couple of different ideas about what I wanted to shoot to show off the city I live in, but everything I went out and tried to shoot just didn't really come out the way I wanted. Ultimately, last night I sat down to process and everything just looked like crap. I had taken some IR pictures, some normal ones, some taken specifically to convert to B & W but I hated everything.

So last night I went out and drove around uptown in the rain. I had already found a place that was sort of elevated, but there was too much garbage in the foreground and I didn't like the angle. I found a parking garage that was reasonably tall and drove to the top, set up my tripod and took a ton of long exposure night shots.

I knew if I was shooting a night scene of downtown I wanted it to be black and white to sort of convey the different components of this suburban city. I tried to capture those elements with this photograph.

I shot this on the 18-70mm len, D50 camera. Aperture was stopped down to F22 and exposure was 20 seconds. I played with 30 second and 15 second exposures, but I found that the 20 looked the cleanest.

I like this picture though and this it represents my little southern suburban / urban city.

Comments, critiques, suggestions, and all that jazz are welcome and appreciated.

I can't wait to see everyone elses.

i didn't have much time to get creative so here's a pretty obvious landmark....

Where I live....

Where I live....

Hmmm, I think i followed the directions wrong. I thought we had to show ourselves in the pictures by using the timer..... So for my self portrait of "Where I live" I took a picture in my car where I park in front of my apartment. This is where I live, NO, I am not a scientologist, lol. I just live next door to the celebrity center.

I took both of these 'where I live' pictures from the perspectives of the people in the photos.

It was actually cool to follow this guy and snap of some pictures of him praying on his mat. But, this is still my favorite:

This ones more fitting (dosen't have an artistic look, but it gets the point through:
