advantages of cheap cameras, nothing to do with RED

"This week's email column
July 13, 2006
Last week's e-mail column, regarding my temptation to "film" my daughter's dance recital using my still camera (despite a "no camcorders" rule intended to spur sales of the dance school's own DVD), generated over 400 messages in my In box and the Comments area at nytimes.com/pogue. They ranged from "Film away, dude -- stick it to the man!" to "What part of 'no filming' don't you understand?""

Even if you guys buy a RED, you might want to have a cheap digi cam that can film in HD. http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/9106/panasonic_lumix_lx2/
The advantages being that you can sneek it into places where they say no cameras allowed. This is beginning to be more and more places. It is hard to get candids with a big camera too. Every where you go, they want you to have to have a permit to film. If RED could some day make a camera that was incospicuous, that would be great. I don't want to have to pay extra to film everywhere I go. If RED could some day in the future make a ultra compact model, that would be cool for cheap skates like me.

Hmm, they have a section called the Cafe' where you can post pretty much anything like this.

Why don't you mosey on down there and check it out :)

I think Jared wants to keep this section pretty much "RED" related - hence the forum title and nifty red color.
It's true D_and_G but there's place here to good humor too and other concerns related. Chiefly when RED related.

Otherwise, Jannard needs to sell thousand of cameras in the benefit of all of us and not some dozens only for a few. He's here because he knows it. DVXUSER has its history of a specific lowprofile already with well-known results.

DVX100 first, HVX200 later. Jan of Panasonic understood this very well. Stuart English learnt (learned in American English, right?) with his own experience. And that's the power of Jarred. All know it. Even Barry Green, a serious guy... I'm reader of DVXUSER for one year and I never saw Barry with bad humor. I'm asking if will it be necessary to link some of his posts or even open threads? Similar as acrochordon is doing (though with a different style and excitement) and not at cafe.

There. Inside HVX sub-forum. He knows his work. The success of his books depends of the nice and friendly interactivity with the market. Not the opposite. See his own Jarred's example when a guy like acrochordon isn't here and he needs to keep the audiences alive. He is the webmaster. If he's doing something (not deleting this or that post, this or that thread), why will it be? It must read below the lines and not thinking that we know what it's better to him or to us because he's - I repeat - our leader here. Not anyone else. Of course, that isn't your case and I'm sure you well know. You're a football lover (soccer in american english) so... :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Jim Jannard made his choice (why he preferred DVXUSER rather www.cinematography.com forum?) and the DVXUSER previous results are speaking by themselves. This is a daily basis forum not a closed one. All of us, we need. All of us, we can earn with, beyond Jarred and Jim Jannard.

But lately there is some sort of weird animosity in these boards. Jarred already tried to stop it and he was very clear. A few days later...

It will be impossible to dictate or determinate (not you!) how the people must be here without being themselves. Otherwise, this forum will lose. The RED market and Jim Jannard too. Also ourselves as RED customers but not the 35mm world.

Sorry my sincerity but I'm tired of some attacks to my interests. I have two daughters that are the love of my eyes and I'd like to bring money back home making movies all my life. Thank you Jim Jannard, thank you Jarred.

Edit : Forget I said anything.

Adios muchachos.
LOL

You're editing it's the best that I could read now. Welcome aboard!

If I'm not wrong -- I'm surely not, as I could read tonight 99% have the same opinion here.

I add my feelings. :dankk2: and Congrats Jarred and Jim! You are our leaders in this RED rebellion!

I have spent a little time over at www.cinematography.com. Jim has posted their quite a bit since the original RED announcement. It's a horrible place for a RED supporter over there, a certain member having made it their personal mission to attack RED and Jim every post. A lot of it is nasty, baseless and should not be allowed, but is!

Remarkably, Jim still posts there because he's after valuable creative input for RED's development.

Anyway, my point would be that this forum rocks. Problem with the internet is you don't have to say anything to people's faces. People on this forum don't exploit that fact and that is a good thing.

At same time, they are interested in these attacks because their interests are not the same than ours. They're trying to protect themselves. All that speech about PL mount vs. still photography offer is why they're frigthened because the economies of scale will blow up their own market. The time for the masters of the 35mm motion picture is over. Its end will become. And with it "le cinema d'auteur" or the indie filmmaking will have more opportunities than ever.

And now we are finally at cafe. I warned you acrochordon, you cannot say that I didn't try my best. We spoke about football (soccer there) and... ah ah ah
