The Hasselhoff Conquest of the World

He is German (squared).

He treads the fine line of, cool but not...... but somehow cool........ but not. And he knows it.... and he plays it up. Like in Dodge ball. Dude had guts. Hes liek chuck norris wihout the roundhouse kicks and Beard. I guess that just makes him a fist.

Not so sure... I mean, Shatner's vintage and he has more history, but -- watch that video again, The Hoff just has it goin' on...

I recently compared you to Shatner, to your approval. Would you like me to make the same comparison vis-a-vis Hasselhoff?

If I could someday aspire to the coolness of The Hoff, that would be sincerely magnificent.

Although, as penultimate as The Hoff and Shatner are, they still pale in comparison to the coolest of them all: Charlton Heston.

My dream cast has now been extended. Someday I shall cast a film that features William Shatner, Bruce Campbell, Charlton Heston, and David Hasselhoff. Can't you just see it already?

What does the rest of the world (especially Germany) see in this guy...

I don't know when this Hoff-germany thing started, but I can tell you it's not true. I feel ashamed just like you :)

Well, after viewing this video for about the three hundredth time, I figured "there must be more out there"...

Found someone who agrees, he'd done the research and located some more. Here's the first link:

Now, this one isn't nearly as cool as the "ooga chaka" and "jump in my car" videos; it's a lot more conventional, but there's a certain undeniable 80's kitsch factor (plus lots and lots of KITT outtakes, including some that never made the show, for very obvious reasons!)

Same song, but LIVE!

(and for those who don't "get" 'The Hoff', take one look at the jacket he's wearing in this video. If you don't "get it" after that, you probably never will...)

I don't know when this Hoff-germany thing started, but I can tell you it's not true. I feel ashamed just like you :)

Yeah, but -- look at this video. This was live -- IN BERLIN. Do you think we would have let him do this in the USA? 'Course not... there's truth to that Germany thing. You know it. It's okay to admit it... :)

EDIT: someone posted this comment about this video:
the east germans finally get freed and see this? they'd prolly want to put the wall back up

Heh heh heh...

I can't imagine what hasselhoff does when he looks at himself in the mirror..

All right, here's an example of why some people are glad the 80's are officially over:

Although it seems to have some '90's flavor to it, and we can start to see the emergence of The Hoff... and once again, the jacket takes center stage. That jacket is nearly Elvis-caliber... and you simply have to see the audience clapping at the end to fully grasp what was happening here...

All right, now we're talking. Hasselhoff, backed by an orchestra, singing "Rhinestone Cowboy."

You can't make this stuff up.

Check out the boot. Not his boots, but the boot -- well, you'll know it when you see it.

Looks like it's from some German telethon to raise money for something or other. Check out the first name that comes by -- The Hoff himself pledged 1,000 euros to whatever the cause was. The Hoff rules.

Ah, the growth of The Hoff becomes more clear. Check out "Secret Agent Man", here:

A few elements start to come through. The jetpack, reminiscent of his unparalleled flying routine in "Ooga Chaka" (Hooked On A Feeling). The flames, and that big power kick, so prominently featured in "Jump In My Car". Was this the beginning of the modern era of cheesy Hasselhoff videos?

Pity we couldn't see it in its original format; apparently this was taped from a high-def source off Voom. The Hoff in HD? What more could someone ask for?
