SI 2K mini used on 48Hour Film Project shoot

Interesting, you wrote the SI 2k, is that a different spec camera?? Also, how many hours can your cineform codec squeeze into a 160gb HDD with 2k?

Thanks, but that's 4.5 hours of 1080x1920 HD right? Not 2k though.

Also nice cameo in the movie David! Best of luck you guys are doing wonders for this industry.

Hmmm... If the camera does 2k, 4.5 hours is my guess for disk space. You would get well over 5 hours for 1920x1080p24.

Hi David,

Great job and congrats on the best cinematography award. I know several people who do the 48Hour project when it is here in DC and how hard they work (and little they sleep) just to get a film submitted.

I've been wondering a lot about lens options for the SI camera and was curious to know more about the lenses you used and what you thought of them. From the pictures it looks like possibly the Canon zoom was one of those older C mount zooms made for the one inch tube cameras. Was it that, or one of the more modern zooms like the ones they were using for Spoon? Either way were you happy with the resolving power of the lenses you used and how much difference did you see between the zoom and the primes. Since these new cameras are opening up a whole range of options any experiences you could share would be great.

Thanks and keep up the great work with Cineform.

We had three C-mount lens to chose from, but for convenience (setup speed) we mostly used the Canon Zoom. I know very little about this other than was it written on it : CANON TV ZOOM LENS J6x12 12.5-75mm 1:1.8. Clearly is was desgined for a 16m area (not super-16mm) that is way we go some slight vignetting. Still, it proves that a large sensor and an average lens can give great results. But the lens options for SI are large. I had a C-mount to Pentax-K for my testing. P/L mounts and Nikon mounts are also available. Note: for the "toaster view" shots we using a 16mm prime with a 0.4X wide angle adaptor -- which vignetted like crazy (because of the 0.4X adaptor), but we shot those sense at 720p which uses the center of the CMOS sensor.

I can't wait until you guys test some 35mm adapters on the Silicon, I';m assuming it would have to be a relay lens.

Yes for extra shallow depth of feed and 35mm rig like the M2 adaptor will be nice. However the larger sensor of the SI camera itself is already aiding greatly for depth of field control, reducing the overall need. The Spoon guys were using mini-35s until they used the SI camera -- they found the DOF fine of their film without the adaptor.

The Fujinon 16mm or 25mm Lenses should work very well as the relay lens.

C-mount is C-mount isn't it? I have also used a C-mount to Pentax K adaptor.

I just wanted a confirmation. It is nice to know that all my trusted Takumar lenses can be used with the SI. Why is that K mount adaptor ?

Thanks.

Does this SI camera support PL mounts? I have several PL lenses that I would love to use.

Plus, besides ordering from the website, is there any other locations, stores, etc that would be carring this camera?

This is amazing. It looks nothing high end, because it's a rushed 48 hour project, and I understand, but it looks a lot like a 16mm film. Say a student film.

I'm impressed it doesn't look like video at all! Congratulations to the SI guys!

About the film, it's very nice, and the cinematography, while nothing fancy is definatley good for such a quick job. Good Work!
