i can't believe how it's possible to read in the same list crap like:

04 (?) Ghost Busters that i saw when i was teenager..
06 (???) The Karate Kid that i saw when i was teenager..

and Blood Simple that i studied when i was film student..
as a simple honorable mention ????

edit
did you see the same versions than i ????? :)
No I saw the "Director's Extended 20th Anniversary Collector's Gold Series Redux Limited Remastered Renegade Special Edition Version" just in the nick of time before it went back into the Disney Vault for a millennia.

Now pony up a top ten list of your own, if you please.

Not one of. THE.

But I do differentiate "favorite" from "best," and in terms of filmmaking, GB is the better movie.

I have to agree with that. Ghostbusters is a great movie, in fact it is my favorite Comedy of all time.

1) ghostbusters better than Blood Simple?.. decidedly, we didn't see/watch the same versions.. :cheesy:

2) there aren't completion lists.. this competition mania is typical of our capitalist societies where all must have the respective number.. it can be proper for the price of money but it isn't typical of the art itself - period

The Terminator
Paris, Texas
A Nightmare on Elm Street
This Is Spinal Tap
The Lonely Guy
All of Me
The Bounty
Blood Simple
Stranger Than Paradise

forgetting the second part of your statement however it's possible to subscribe this one.
And everyone has their own criteria for "best." I'm certain that yours is different than mine. Best is such a subjective thing that there will never be full agreement. We look for the point where there is the most intersection (read: agreement) to come up with some kind of consensus.

there isn't because it's subjective..

consensus? it depends.. if you're mr. hollywood or not.. or not even that.. i mean: even not.

wtf?

i meant:

there isn't "the" best.. because it's subjective.

there are a lot of consensus.. it depends of the largeness of this or that particular audience but there isn't "the" consensus..

except for cases like "Citizen Kane" but i don't see any Citizen Kane there in these lists..

unless, Blood Simple?.. again, maybe not for all audiences but definitely for some audiences.. 50 years later maybe more than a few.. but i'd bet ghostbusters will be forgettable.. i'm sorry guys but this is just my hint.. not yours..

Personally, Citizen Kane is not in my greatest movies of all time. When it was made it was ground breaking. Now, it's just boring. If you look at my list for 1984, you'll see Blood Simple. It was a very good movie. Comedy doesn't translate as well between cultures so I can see how you might have a hard time finding the same humor we here in America or Canada see in the movie. That's the problem with cultural biases.

i agree besides the filmmaking art as a code/language, a philosophy/science, human knowledge, etc.

i remember when i was a film student once someone said: it's not a question of taste (so, cultural biases) but of originality, work and finally: complexity.

ps
btw, how did you guess i'm posting from outside of north america?..

edit
Citizen Kane is one of the most important movies ever made.. this one enters in that concept of consensus.. besides our taste.. here is the difference..

 quote of the day

ps
besides the joke.. good one.. the truth is quite different even if i could agree with you if you added as: "The (New & Improved Capitalist) ..." because i'm changing the titles (not just the top 10) and i'm finding no differences following your lists.. 1984.. 1986.. 1989.. does it matter?..
