new camera from bestbuy opened and resealed

So I just returned from bestbuy after purchasing a new gs300 for everyday recording that doesn't require the big gun (100b). Anyway, the salesperson unlocked the case and grabbed the top box. He carried the box all the way to the register and put it in a bag.

When I returned home (excited to play with my new toy) I took the box out of the bag and noticed that the seal on the box looked a little, uh...i dunno...opened and resealed. At closer inspection the seal was indeed cut and a new seal placed over the cut one.

I haven't opened it yet.

So should I go back in the morning and ask for a box with an unbroken seal, or take my chances with the one i've got? Also, will they even honor such a request, or tell me to take a hike?

I'd take it back and see if they'll take a little off the price, considering that it's a used camera (or just give you a new one).

Fry's would discount something like that -- not a lot, but they'd take a bit off.

Personally I wouldn't put up with crap like that from Best Buy since they charge a 15% re-stock fee on returned camcorders. They apparently charged a previous customer for returning it, supposedly so they could get fresh new inventory for future customers, but have pocketed the cash and passed the return along to you!

It's worth a try to take it back and see what they do....but BestBuy is tough. Lesson learned....I know I'll really look over a box before pulling out my wallet.

I'm on the horn with customer service (on hold) right now. I'll tell them my circumstance and see what they do about it. If they give me the run-around I'll just return it. They won't charge a restocking fee if it's not opened, which it isn't.

OK, I spoke with customer service, and they said I can take it back and exchange it for another one. whew!

And now you'll never know if inside the box is an "extra" camera some employee swiped and stuck in the box, thinking they'd buy the camera and get away with the "spare".
