Top 10 Films of 1982...

 Yowzer! What a poo pooing amazing year for films!

Let's see...

-we saw three of the greatest Sci-Fi pictures of all time released-
-we saw two of the greatest Horrors debut-
and
-we saw one of the all-time greatest of the great in E.T. the Extra Terrestrial-

Aaaaah, 1982...

:crybaby: In the same year, we lost the screen's top two most devastatingly beautiful faces of all time with the tragic departures of both Ingrid Bergman and Grace Kelly :crybaby: - We also lost one of the finest actors of them all when Henry Fonda bowed out - Time Magazine's Man of the Year wasn't a man at all; the honor went instead to...a computer

Please try to do a top 10 in order (hard as it may be) with an optional two or three "honorable mentions".

Though I didn't list (I never do) my Oscar nods. This was the year that Paul Newman should have gotten best actor for his portrayal of Frank Galvin in The Verdict rather than the "makeup" vote for his performance in The Color of Money, a much overrated movie...imo.

Don't worry, Paul (& Blaine)...we are still workin' our way back. I'm sure we'll find a couple-a-three Oscars that shoulda been rightfully yours.

Yeah, he's been overlooked more than once...like 1967!!!

Not a top ten, but at the time "Mortelle randonnee" was without a doubt my favourite of the year.

"The Year of Living Dangerously" and "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" were both very good too in their own way.

EDIT: actually my fav film mentioned above might of been a year later, 1983.

John,
Mad Max 2 was AWESOME, but I think it goes as a 1981 movie, not 82.

It wasn't released until Summer 1982 in the States, so I went with it. I suppose when we do the 1981 list, I can revise

In no particular order:

Deathtrap
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
E.T.
John Carpenter's The Thing
The Road Warrior
Blade Runner
The World According to Garp
Diner

Hudson,

Just because the IMDB has more or less become the authority on all things film, I normally go by the blue number in parenthesis next to the title (http://imdb.com/title/tt0082694/). Keep in mind...most people don't actually open up the "release date" option for each film.

So technically you're right, but those (myself being one of them) who include it in their 1981 list will also be right in doing so.

Yeah, John, you've got little to worry about. It is my #6 movie of 1981 when Chad puts the lists up...

And for all the thumping and bumping about 1982 being the best year ever, I actually think 1981 might have been better.

01 Fanny and Alexander (bergman)
02 Pink Floyd The Wall (parker)
03 The Thing (carpenter)
04 Veronica Voss (fassbinder)
05 Star Trek II (meyer)
06 Blade Runner (scott)
07 Identification of a Woman (antonioni)
08 A Good Marriage (rohmer)
09 Fitzcarraldo (herzog)
10 One From The Heart (coppola)

dishonorable mention... one of the greats... Megaforce!

Always "interesting" :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) picks, cygnet74. It's good to see that I'm not the only one who likes One From the Heart. (I'm a BIG Tom Waits fan :) )

I haven't seen Fitzcarraldo, I don't know why I never have...

 Who woulda thunk it? I certainly wouldn't have.

Ok, so I analyzed my Top 100 List of All Time by year of release...

...and according to my numbers, the best year for films was:
1951
in which 5 films outta my top hundred were released:
An American in Paris - The African Queen - A Streetcar Named Desire - Strangers on a Train - The Day the Earth Stood Still

There was a five way tie for the second place year:
1939 - 1944 - 1959 - 1962 - 1994
(each having 4 of my top films debuting)

Go figure...I learned something about myself that I didn't know.
