Midlife Crisis Birthday Gift to myself

Ok boys and girls...
The Big 4-0 birthday is rapidly approaching in August. I am looking for that "midlife crisis" gift for myself...Since I dont want a red sporty convertable, and the missus wont let me get a motorcycle, I need some advice...I am deeply desirous of the 17'' Apple Macbook Pro... and I want the Avid Express pro studio to go in it. However, Avid and the MBP are incompatible at this time. SO should I go ahead and invest in the MBP right now and one day hopefully AVID and APPLE will marry up, or wait until that blissful day and buy them together or just go ahead and buy the Avid and put it on my pc at home.

I suggest keeping the

in the bank until your crisis reveals itself.

Wellllll, you could always go with the black hardtop instead of the
red convertible. Just a suggestion :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Why is it, if you're over forty and buy a Corvette, it's a mid-life crisis? I couldn't afford one until I got older...that's it.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Now, taking a mistress...that would be a mid-life crisis:evil:

Sorry for playing the psychotheRapist, but your words easily reveal what you want. You "desire" a new gadget, and in order to justify your not so practical desire(since you are in favour of AVID) you are dreaming the impossible: AVID & Apple marriage...

Clearly you DONOT OWN a editing system. If you buy MBP you'll satisfy your "buying a new gadget desire" therefor provide a temporary happiness. As a result you'll be somebody having 2 comp(1Apple, 1 PC withot an editing system)
A LOGICAL suggestion is to buy AVID so that you'll have a working EDITING system.
You see it really depends on the fact that: DO YOU WANNA HAVE A WORKING EDITING SYSTEM?
Btw, another suggestion is to buy MBP and Final Cut Pro 5, and live happily ever after :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Actually I do have an editing system, Sony Movie studio + Dvd. Since I want to upgrade my business interests, having a consumer grade product will not impress future clients. Avid and the Mac being who they are, are industry standards. I am not a poser nor a lurker. My deepest need is a speedy, portable system that I can use in the field. Mac book pro is that computer, Avid is that system. The big 4-0 is an excuse to go ahead and purchase the system that best fits my needs. I havent seen enough good things about FCP 5 yet...and I am more familiar with Avid's system.
BTW...Im responding to your post since I disguised my true need with a comical question and you saw through it. Thanks truly.

First of all, Avid Xpress Studio doesn't exist for Mac. It's a PC only product. You can get just Avid Xpress Pro for Mac, but not the Studio package.

Secondly, For what it's worth, Avid will eventually release a Universal Binary for the Intel Macs.

The catch is that until the Intel Workstations are released Avid doesn't have a good reason to push the Universal Binary. If you wait until the UB of Xpress Pro is availalbe, Apple will probably have bumped up the specs on the MacBook Pro a couple of times and you can get your Avid and a better machine for the same of less money.

Either way you go, good luck.

A sports car will impress your clients more than a almost immediately out-of-date computer get up.

(tongue firmly in cheek)
