Is the Marshall a good monitor for a small jib?

I have been planning to buy a small jib. Not sure which yet but I am leaning to the Dykortech. But no matter which, I will have to buy a monitor. I was thinking it might be a good excuse to buy the Marshall that is so commonly discussed here. It's been tough for me to justify the $1400 for that monitor but having it do double duty as a jib monitor might seal that decision.

Is the Marshall too small to use for this purpose?

I have used an 8" monitor with my EZFX jib in the past and had great success. The Marshall is 7"... so I guess it really depends on the how close the monitor is to the jib operator. Oh, and one more thing... it will also depend on how good his/her eyesight is!

Hi Jim,
Just wanted to say thanks for the response. I am going to try the Marshall out on a rental jib at a local dealer to see if the monitor is large enough. I would just get the 15" or 17" Sony HD LCD for this but I was trying to have a rig that would be battery powered.

I understand the portablility issue. I just pop a couple of NP-1 batteries in my Sony 8045Q and it's good to go. Good luck with your test. I would suggest having some sort of hood for the Marshall to help cut reflections... I find this a great help with my Sony.

Jim
