AT 897 and Rycote Baby Ball Gag

Is anyone using an AT 897 with a Rycote Baby Ball Gag. I am finding conflicting information regarding its application. B&H tells me that the BBG is only designed for handheld, non-shotgun style mics such as the Shure SM58 etc.

I see various posts online that indicate that some folks may be using the BBG for shotguns. Any information is really appreciated.

The BBG is really meant for smaller mics, such as hyper cardioid ones. A good shotgun should be in a complete "zeppelin" for best wind protection. Or at the very least be covered all the way down to where they are attached. Depending on its size, this will be much longer than the BBG can cover.
Simply putting a BBG over the end of most shotgun mics won't do much good, as the side openings won't be covered at all.

Thanks. I do have a Softie but often find it to be less than adequate in the Kansas (Kansas City) winds where I work.

You can also try the new K-tek zepplin...looks pretty good and well priced (disclosure: I haven't actually used it yet, but have never had a problem with any K-Tek product I've purchased...)

You can check it out at Trew or Coffey or any of the other usual suspects.
