Am I the only person that likes the CS1?

I have a CS1 and frankly I love it! However, I never see it mentioned on this board even though it got good marks on the ShootOut (see/listen to sticky). It cost about the same as the AT4073 and IMHO it sounds better. As a matter of fact I bought it after listening to the shotout . So am I the only one who likes this mike?

I love that mic as well. It's nice and small, sounds great, is real forgiving, and has great off axis rejection. I don't know why it's not mentioned more here.

I've been doing a lot of research recently into buying a good oncamera mic as a backup for wireless and boomed interviews and for run and gnu situations. After a lot of back and forth I picked up the CS1 last week and I think it is a terrific mic as well.

Now, I don't think you are alone in loving this mic safari. The reason it got onto my shopping list in the first place was the numerous mentions of it by the audio guns in this forum. However it does get a little overshadowed in the posts by the AT4073, the 416, and what seems to be everyone's favourite, the MK012.

I guess it's the quiet achiever.

I've got a Mk012 and it's ok for inside, controlled situations (although I like the AKG Blueline better). The 416 is of course the bomb but I have a "T" and I only use it with a mixer which is a hassle to use for run and gun (besides why waste it when it cann't be used on a boom ?). For run and gun IMHO the CS1 rules.( It an't to shabby on a boom neither!)

why cant it be used on a boom? of course a 416t can be used on a boom. unless im not understanding you right.

My mistake. What I mean is if I CANN"T use it on a boom then I'm wasting it. The CS1 on the other hand was made for run and gun.

I think the main reason the CS1 doesn't get much mention is it falls between the cracks of bargin priced and top quality. At $500 the AT has won the bargin hunter's race and for someone who might be willing to spend a little more then that the 416 and CS3e are significantly better.

The CS1 is a nice little mic with a decent sound. Just like it's bigger brother, it is a tad noisy for my tastes but there are certainly noisier out there.

If people think $700-$1000 is a big invest for audio then I would hope they would at least take the time to listen to "The Shootout" as SafariJoe did. If you really like the mic's performance in the shootout then try a rental to be sure. As has been said so many times before, mic preference is really subjective (except the ME66  ).

Cheers

Uh, you can also use the 416 for run-n-gun, just not the "t" version. :)

but im so not arguing, the cs1 is a nice little mic - i dont have great experience with it (only listened to it once), but I like sankens, so i sure aint against you...

the problem i think is that a used 416, and even sometimes a new one, is in direct competition with the cs1, and most people will go with the 416 . thats kinda just how it is.
