next time, run it through a few VHS generations - to crap the footage so it will look more like a passed around video. It'll will take the edge off and add that analog distortion.

When I did this, I thought about emulating it somehow in FCP and tried some different things, but it worked out better with a VHS VCR, some crappy cables, and multiple generations.

In the fall of 1978 my next-door neighbor I and witnessed SOMETHING fly through the outer atmosphere and out again, in about fifteen seconds.
It was a bright light with streamers coming off it, but what was amazing was that there was also some kind of a much larger "shell" ahead of it (from LA, about a half degree ahead of it), also with streamers, and I realized that it was protecting whatever it was, like some sort of force/heat shield...wish I'd had a DV camera then! Once it got through the atmosphere, it immediately faded out and was gone...
My immediate response was, "Somebody fu**ed up!" (probably the navigator) and for days, I could only think how much trouble the poor guy was in after that...
Although it must have been seen by thousands of people at that hour around the southland, (sunset) it never hit the news.

I've never seen a UFO but I always sort of wished I could - from a distance.
Anyway, I live in Louisville, pretty close to Churchill Downs - home of the Kentucky Derby. One derby day when I was a kid I ran out the back door and hopped on my bike to go play like a thousand times before. Well, I caught something out of the corner of my eye and when I turned I almost fell off of my bike. It was the Goodyear Blimp and it was SO FREAKING HUGE AND CLOSE. As far as my memory is concerned I think I could have thrown a rock and hit it. It really took my breath away.
So, for about 2 seconds I got to experience what it must be like to see a UFO.
