HVR-Z1U used for $2600

Wish I were banned.
If you were given the choice between buying a HVR-Z1u with 80 hours on its heads, but nothing else wrong with it for $2600, would you buy that over a DVX100b for whatever price you could find it at?

This is assuming neither of these were a scam...

*I* would not, because true 24p and the DVX gamma curves are far more important to me than HD. But that doesn't mean someone else wouldn't.

Agreed. I'd rather shoot something that looks more like film than something that just looks like really sharp video. I have no need for HD at this point.

bball, a sale is not unreasonable at that price. However, I think posting for feedback on this site might lead you to some biased reviews. That is, this is "DVX" user dot com. So most people here bow down to that god.

This "bias" charge as you used it gets a little irritating after a while. Do you think we just randomly picked the camera and then defend it only because it's what we bought and use? That implies a pretty toxic level of stupidity.

I don't say the DVX is great because I use it. I use it because it's great and what need for my purposes. An FX1 would not be (and I say that having one sitting about six feet away from me right now). Is that a "bias"? Maybe, but ONLY in the sense that it's a preference based on real, tangible, practical and professional reasons, not some irrational slant or ridiculous brand loyalty, which is what you imply.

"Stupid" would actually be buying a camera just because it costs less, not because it does what you really want it to do.

lol,

David could have said -- go for the HD then buy my CC and 24p conversion software and it will look just like an HVX

(not that it would look just like HVX but that would'nt be a bad option, nor would HD and Nattress G Film if you are on a Mac)

seems like his opinion is fairly objective in that light.

EDIT: I almost went that route with a Z1 and G Film actually ... but chose the DVX.

I also think two of the best features of the DVX don't come in the box -- Barry's Book and this Forum. This kind of direct support and presentation of knowledge are definitely weighty factors to be well considered.

I'm thinking about trying to pick up the cheap Z1U and then trading it for an HVX... but I'd add on money. I don't know if that would work. Maybe I could just sell it for more and buy a HVX.

OK no, not a chance. Plus I think this is fraud anyways because the guy who just told me he lived in Austin said that he just moved and now lives out of state and he'd have to ship it to me (this is on Craigslist.com).

Looks like I'll be moving on.

Give us a break.

That, to me, is the smartest thing you can do. Buy the thing, and sell it for more. You``ll only make profit.
