Amount of Filming done per day.

I know quite a few of you have either made/assisted in making an independent feature. I was wondering typically how many pages worth of script are filmed a day. I know that this obviously varies on people's schedules, but want to know an approximation. Thanks.

depends how good you are. the movie "peices of april" did something like 10 pages in one day according to the director.

Hmm, that's a tough call. Depends how complicated the setups are. Depends how picky you are. Depends if things go right.

I'm filming a short film tomorrow that involves a love scene, a conversation scene, a chase scene and some dining scenes, and its about 7 pages long....and the plan is to finish it in 1 day...huh. However i think that just might be possible since i have no setup and whatnot, seeing as i spent all my cash on the DVX. No matter, most of the shooting will be done outdoors anyway, and reflectors are cheap.

I'd like to hear how it went. Thanks.

depends how many takes you have, How many different locations, how big the setups are, and how many actors you have in one scene. So you can shoot less then a page a day to more then 10. So just figure out what you think you can get done. And remeber you don't have to shoot in the order of the script. So group shots a locations that can be done in the same time and shoot everything in that group in a day.

It depends what you call a day. I shot three pages in one day once. But was on set for 12 hours.

We are just finishing 24 days of shooting, this is day 23!!!, it was a 90 page script with an avg of 4 pages per day. Some days we did 7 some days 3. It really does depend on number of setups, # of cast, # of extras, company moves, meals, etc. etc...
our car chase scenes took hours...very fun to do though.
and I still have time to check dvxuser!!!

When I finish my script, and get my feature up and going, Im probably only going to get 2-3 pages done in one day. I promised that I will be extra picky. My goal is to make it look un-indie. (Indie being badly made and fake-looking).

If I want a trombone player walking on the sidewalk in the background, O trust me, I will get one.

When I direct, I try to shoo no more than 15-20 setups a day. Though days can have as little as 3-4 setups. Since I don't work with a lot of money to buy more complications as stuntman, special FX, animals, cars, explosions, extras, I never had to direct a day-long setup. But I worked on some films that shot day-long setups.

I have seen directors do aroud 30 setups a day, and people shoot 40, but on those crazy 20-25-hour days. I'd say, if you have this short (straghtforward, no big scenes) you can safely plan 20-30 setups a day, as long as you have a crew that know what they are doing, and you talk everything with them in advance (a HUGE timesaver is to have your people know what to do beforehand!).
