My Audio Technica AT-897 came today from B&H. The sound is quite good, I will post some sample clips soon. Here are some pictures with the Rode SM-3 shockmount:

Despite the way I have tilted down the microphone, it never gets in my shots!

I would just use it with the mic attachment on the dvx, looks really akward with the shock mount mounted there.

You do know the mic isn't properly mounted, right? It should be suspended by the rubber bands in the center of the circle. Hence the term "shock" mount...

Better yet, get it off the camera entirely. Get it a lot closer to your subject.

That's why I bought this :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Have you got a boompole for that thing? It's a good mic. You might want to think about a Softie in the near future too. Have fun!

Hey, I just got an Audio Technica AT835B from B&H yesterday. It's way too long for the sidemount and DOES get in the shot. 14" vs 11" for the 897 (Should have done more research)
I'm contemplating trading it in for the 897. Any reason I shouldn't? I would be using the shotgun primarily for event shooting where unfortunately the mike would be mounted on the camera.

I don't know what the pick up pattern is like on that mic, but the 897 has a very wide pick-up angle. About 120 degrees (80%+). Seeing as it is longer, it might have a narrower angle of pickup. There should be a diagram of the polar pattern that came with your microphone.
