India's Superman!

...this would be the greatest movie ever!!! Well I've got to hand it to those kooky Bollywood (ahem) film makers. Their (gasp, choke) expertise had provided the world with another perfect example of why stock footage is a great thing. Actually this movie is 2 1/2 hours long and at least 40 minutes of it is special effects footage lifted off the American Superman film from 1978, and I have to admit that they are by far the best scenes in the movie. I don't speak Hindi, but a friend of mine does, and we asked him to translate the film for us. He left after 20 minutes crying that it didn't make any sense to him either. I felt sorry for him, but it actually lifted the rest of the film up the scale of "so bad, it's good" theater. This is really actually pretty good, and the random English lines help to both entertain and confuse the hell out of me. I guess that this film is an acquired taste, if you don't like things like "Plan 9 from Outerspace" or "Gymkata", or even the Batman TV series from the 1960's then don't expect to like this, but if you love bad effects, acting, and cheesy costumes, get a copy and watch Superman Indian style.

LOL!! Ahahahahaha....Well for the modern one, at least I can be er..proud? to say that it was shot in Singapore...my very own country... Probably the most expensive thing to come out of singaporean cinema...

And Bollywood outsells Hollywood worldwide. I guess there's no sating the world's appetite for crap! :)
You've got to be kidding me? Bollywood makes me want to puke.

They filmed a bollywood movie in my old neighborhood of Jackson Heights, Queens. There was this huge dance number on a city street that was an adaptation of pretty woman. Hilarious good time.

Ok. I am an indian settled in the US so I have had my share of bollywood movies growing up. Couple of things i know about Krrish (by the way Krish is my real name also ! ), the movie was made with a shoestring budget (from a US perspective ) and huge budget from Indian perspective. I think it was made with 10 million USD. Thats really not good enough for a super slick high end special effects movie. Most of the movie was shot in Singapore and yes its a musical just like every other bollywood movie. The movie is doing quite well in india and is expected to be huge hit .

The reality about indian movies is that they still cater to an audience who are sort of stuck in the 50's of hollywood when all the movies were musical. Now in last two decades there are a lot of really good movies that are not musical but they are few and far between.

So there you go !!

Cheers,

That was a movie called Kal ho na ho, so crap it's good! And krish, I know what you're saying, but bollywood and bollywood culture is not comparable to anything, it stands up on it's own as market force and something very unique. It used to be TRUE grindhouse film making, now everything is so material and commercial. Bring back the angry young man and tacky love scenes with no kissing anyday man. Naseeb and Coolie all the way man!
