Must See horror movies?

Les Diabolique (1955, Dir. Henri-Georges Clouzot) - it's been remade several times, usually not very well. It's an excellent example of how to build tension.

Halloween (nuff said)

The Shining (original)

On the thriller side "Wait Until Dark" and the original "When a Stranger Calls" are also very worth seeing.

In the mouth of madness (anyone, I thought Event Horizon was a turd. It's like saying the Hellraiser movie that took place in space was a good movie.)
I won't repeat the great recommendations you have already recieved, that will get you off to a great start. Good luck.

"No profanaras el sueno de los muertos" a spanish zombie movie that is just amazing, filmed in the late 70's by Jordi Grau. A true zombie masterpiece and one of the 5 best zombie films ever.

Good call! It was released here under the names "Let Sleeping Corpses Lie" and "The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue."

I picked up the DVD a few years ago. It's a beautifully photographed film. I'd highly recommend it.
